Wink Scrambler Roots - where the bike originated...

Those of you who own the Bonneville scrambler owe a lot to this TR6 a 1969 model this one and rallied by the actor and rider Steve McQueen. I believe this model was only ever exported to the USA by triumph but do correct me if I am wrong...

I think this is a publicity shot with another TR6 from the same era but I am not sure. Yes she is sitting the WRONG way round on the bike

Finally a Steve Mc Queen tribute Scrambler bike done by Triumph dealer in the UK Jack Lilley

The 'Scrambler' as we know it is supposed to represent the TR6SC and in particular Steve McQueens 1964 ISDT bike, Which you can read about in the Book 40 summer ago. A great book and if your a fan of either the bikes or the man it's a must have!

notice the low pipes

this pic is of a 66 Triumph TR6SC, and my favorite bike of all time. And yes as far as i'm aware these model were for export only.

you second picture is of a new Bonneville that has been scrambled.

Im not sure if you are saying that your top image is of A bike that was raced by McQueen, but as far as I know by the mid to late sixties McQueen had progressed from Triumph based motorcycle such as the Bonneville and Triumph based Rickman's to Husqvarna's.

which you can see him riding in the film 'On any Sunday'

No the 1969 TR6 was just to show an example of the genre.

Thanks for the clarification on the other bike (with the lady model on it). I couldn't work out if it was a new Bonnie or an old Trumpet of some kind. Looks nice whatever.

Thanks for the lovely pics you posted too.

Safe riding.

Yes thanks Sal,

Of course McQueen was a bit of a skinflint. A buddy had to wait on him at a bike shop in SoCal. He'd bring old plugs, claim they were fouled and my bud would exchange them. he'd do things like that all the time. Ahhh the benefits of Stardom.

He was a legend though. Its amazing the impact he had as both an actor and a biker.

But your friend knew him? Strange really; I used to get that reaction when I was a young kid as I used to live in Liverpool and went to one of the schools that a couple of The Beatles went to although they were 17 years or so older than myself there were still a couple of teachers there that had taught them.

I'd still like to have met McQueen skinflint or not

Safe riding

Mmm thought this was a Scrambler topic...

Anyway... McQueen was a Legendary skin flint, I read if he ever handled money in a movie scene he would keep it. But with his upbringing and background thats no suprise. On the other hand when it came to chlldren he was very giving, and gave a lot to charity.
