Patriot Guard Riders

The Patriot Guard Riders have been in the news a bit lately, but I didn't know much about them.I did a little research on them today, and I admire what they are doing. Here is a link to their website:http://www.patriotguard.org/

It may not be readily apparent from their website exactly what they are all about, but click here for a pretty concise description on Wikipedia.

Although they are involved in various veteran concerns, their main, and most important function is basically to serve as a human shield between the grieving family and friends of the men and women who have lost their lives, in service to our country, in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the despicable members of a cult that call themselves the Westboro Baptist Church. Click here for another Wikipedia article describing some of the atrocious acts of these......people.They have not only disrupted the funerals of service personnel, but those of the victims of some of the recent school shootings,as well.

The language standards of this forum do not allow me to express how much I despise this WBC bunch, who of course, are not Baptists at all,but are in fact a hate group,a personality cult, built around a charismatic leader.

This WBC pickets funerals, and shouts filthy epithets at the mourners, and carries obscene signs touting their twisted dogma.

I am proud that it a group of fellow motorcyclists who have come forward to become the most visible, and vocal of those to oppose the cult.

Patriot Guard Riders, you guys are my new heroes!

Thanks!
Bruce

They are good people who are just trying to do a good thing. I know a couple and plan on joining when I get home. It is sad for those families that have to deal with that. I am in Iraq, and to think that those A-HOLES (if any members are part of that cult... go f yourselfs) would try to do that to my family! It is extremly comforting to know people care. More then anything it about respecting the fallen soilder. Those guys/gals who gave up their lives for our freedom...

Those, WBC a-holes came around here about 2 years ago. Apparenty they thought our locals were too liberal or too tolerant or something like that. They came all the way to NY with a dozen or so poor idiots with those pathetic signs. The town held a counter protest that drew hundreds and part of the counter protest was a beer/picnic/fundraiser at the local brewery to give everyone a place to vent. Good beer. Then WBC dissapeared for a couple of days then went down the street to a local methodist church and picketed across the front door on sunday morning because someone said the minister there is gay or maybe just accepts gays. People were pretty outraged. After a few days the WBC left , but all they really managed to do was unite the town against them.

There are people of all persuasions around here and everybody gets along fine. I never saw so many locals acting like best friends and sticking up for each other as I did when these a-holes were in town.

I saw one of those Patriot Guard troops in place at the funeral of a fallen hero recently. It was very moving, and I was very impressed. I think they are doing a very fine job.

Patriot Guard

I am a member of the Patriot Guard and also a veteran of OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom). We not attend funerals we also attend welcome home ceremomies for returning units coming from overseas and many other functions involving veterans. I am a firm believer in giving something back for living in this country. Thanks to all you guys for the support.

I had an opportunity to meet up and ride with a few PG riders. When we stopped for lunch, I talked with each one of them and was really moved by how passionate these folks are about their cause. I have joined them and am proud of the work these people do. Thanks to all those in uniform serving our country.

Support 'em

I support patriotic works like this and after checking out the website, I had to join. Now a member. Future support in attendance at events when applicable. Will check out the store as time permits and send in an order. All riders of any kind of bike should support groups like these which support our military HEROES, past and present.

Thanks Bruce for the information, I was not aware of this group until you brought it up on this site.

I hate the WBC more than any group I have encountered outside of the f####ing white supremacists. that's all I can say without getting censored. I'll happily join but unfortunately their non-violent approach could be a problem for me.

I too am a member and the situation hasn't arisen yet, and it's a good thing, because I am not sure if I can abide by the non-violent policy.
