Buy a demo bike?
Thanks to the great information that I have seen on this site I'm interested in buying a new Triumph. Actually, this may be my first post! Anyway, I found a "new" 2007 Scrambler. Turns out it has some miles on it, around 50. Dealer says that someone was going to buy it and didn't and bought one in a different color. I don't know if he put the miles on it or he put some miles on and they used it as a demo after that. All the other new bikes I see have 0 miles.
Question is, would you buy a new bike with some miles on it and if so what would be a fair discount for a "demo" bike. Naturally, I would prefer a 0 miles one but I'd like to hear what some of the experienced riders here think.
It kind of scares me a bit because if this other fellow drove it and found something wrong with it he may have switched to a different color just to avoid buying this one.

The most important thing to find out is the warranty start date. This is usually when a vehicle is either first registered or first put into service by the dealer as in the case of a demo. The two year warranty clock starts ticking on that date and will give you some bargaining room if the warranty has already started. As long as there is plenty of warranty left haggle a good deal and have some TOR's put on so she sounds as cool as she looks.

I would jump on that in a heart beat for a couple of reasons!
1. It's a demo. Demo = money saved
2. 50 miles?!
Buy! Buy! Buy!

50 miles is barely beyond "delivery miles" & most dealer's insist on doing a road test, to ensure that everything's running as it should be. & unless they forgot to put oil in the motor, it's virtually impossible to do any damage to a brand new bike in 50 miles.
I bought my Scrambler with 2000klms on it, which was put on by the previous owner in an 8 month period. & my Street Triple was a dealer demo that had 800klms on it when I bought it, & I know that they were a hard 800klms, 'coz enough people have told me about their ride her. Yet both bikes are still going strong (40K klms on the Scram 10K on the Street), with no problems from prior abuse.
I did buy a Kawasaki KLR 600 demo once, which was an absolute dog, & put me off demo's for 25 years. I only relented because it was the only way I could get myself a Street before Sept, but I'm very glad that I overcame my prejudice, in this case.
I'd advise taking the bike for a ride (& adding a few more demo miles to it). Any "problem" that was so obvious to the first refuser, should be just as obviuos to you.

I don't think you'll get a discount for 50 miles. I rode my TBA for a few miles before I bought it. If I wouldn't have bought it, someone else would have test rode it and put more miles on it. I've never purchased a bike or a car with 0 miles. Good luck though.

Dealer Demo Bike
I bought an '06 Scrambler "Demo" in 12-06 with only 19 miles. Since the bike you are looking at already has 50 miles on it, why not take it out for a long test-drive yourself.
When a Triumph Dealer sells a bike as a "Demo" Triumph reimburses the dealer for the loss the dealer takes in providing the demo bike.
My bike has been 100% trouble free!

I took a demo Buell for a ride once, and I certainly wouldn t buy that bike afterwards (the phrase ride it like you stole it comes to mind) I didn t actualy stick to recomended running in procedures.
On the other hand I once bought a Turbo Ex Highway Patrol car with 45k kms on it and it gave me another 200k km of faultless service.I can t imagine Mr Plod is considerate of run in procedures.

My 06 Bonnie was a demo. Had something like 700 miles on it. The 2 yr warranty started from MY date of purchase. No worries. If you want it and the discount is significant enough, get it. I bought mine for 3 reasons; the color, it had M Bars and Preds already on it, and they cut me a fair deal with the OTD price.

demo
I actually bought a Demo and didn't even know it, since I bought my bike private party. I was on my way home with the bike strapped down in the back of my Dakota and I looked at the keyring the guy gave me and it had a plastic tag on it for the gascap. On the back in marker it said "Demo". It's all good with me, I bought the bike used to begin with and I got a hell of a deal to boot.

When I bought my current Bonnie I got AU$1000 off cause it was built 10/06.Still had the 865 motor and was designated a 07 model, had just been sitting on the dealers floor for 8 months so they were happy to see it go.
