My fall

Pulled up to my garage door, door opener batteries were dead. Hotter 'n' hell, put down kickstand and rested bike on it. Stood beside bike while removing my riding gear. Everything seemed OK, so I went inside to open the garage door. When the door opened, there it was, my pride and joy laying on it's side. The asphalt had given way because of the heat and the kickstand sunk into it until it fell. Does that qualify me for the dumba** club? Carried a 4 inch square piece of metal to put under my stand after that.

As to clutch and shift levers, I once had a Bultaco Matador and rode it in the dirt almost exclusively. Went down quite a few times bending almost every lever on the bike. They were made of a metal that could be bent without breaking. I kept a hammer and prybar handy and bent them back into usable shape numerous times without breakage. I believe they were Magura controls.

Why doesn't someone make a control made of similar material available today? I'd put out a few extra $$$$$$ for something like that.

I've had my RS for a couple of weeks now and I just about did what you guys are talking about twice in one day this weekend. Lucky for me I figured out what was going on before hitting the point of no return. My aunt wasn't so lucky...we made an unscheduled stop to add some clothing and she parked her bike on a slight downhill slope My uncle tossed her a shirt he didn't need and asked her to put in her saddlebag. According to her the bike was in gear and mysteriously popped out of gear. The result was the bike started to roll forwards and of course the kickstand folded. She was lucky though and all she needs is a new signal light. There's also a good scratch on the fairing. I'm now trying to get in the habit of visually checking that my kickstand is fully deployed before setting my bike on it.

Just dropped it once? Lucky.

Just $25? Doubly lucky.

I'd be rejoicing, my experience was a bit more costly.

I feel your pain

I have dropped a new bike going zero, broke the turn signal on the strom. maybe day three. oh well. (put my foot down in a storm drain)

next time let the vette take the hit if it will save the bike, it is just a vette after all. not like it is as special as the trump

by the way I am serious with that one, as far as you know.......

Thumbs down Levers

Had many in the past bent as well. Piece of pipe & bend them back- no problem!
Kinda funny how they (all of them HD incl) break now instead of bend? A way to make $$ for ALL the bike makers. Bent many on Moto & enduro- no problem to straiten out! Not the case any more. They gotta make $$ some how rite???? I Am sure thats a biggy for them! I have never seen one "bend" yet! O well???

Levers

On the subject of bending and breaking I think that part of the reason the new ones break is because they are made of a lighter harder material than the old ones that were probably made out of steel. In todays extremely competitive market every ounce counts towards the bike's final weight specification, often with disregard to crash resistance.
