Other Motorcycle: Don't need one.
I have been told that there are 2 types of riders:

"Those who have fallen, and those who are going to" or something to that effect.

I have been over 2 on my old Kawi, 1 on either side. Left, pulling up to driveway, stopped, and like most others....timmmmbeerrrrr!...MUST remember to put at least 1 foot down when stopping. Took me about three trys to get it upright. 2nd, in the gym parking lot, doing a right turn, going for a stop, and there was a hole where my foot shoulda been....timmmbeerrr!...

So, luckily I joined the dropped bike club on a Kawi, and got it out of the way before the Bonnie came home.

Welcome to you new member.

Holy smokes, are you guys a bunch of dummies.

I've never done that.

And there are no witnesses to the time I didn't do it.

Every time I read a for sale ad for a motorcycle and it says "Never been laid down" I know they are lying. Everyone has done this.

I read the original post this morning and had a little chuckle to myself. I haven't dropped a bike in more than 20 years. I don't know if it was the power of suggestion but today I did it on my 6 week old Bonneville. It was almost identical to the way Sweatmachine described his drop. I don't really know if I missed the kickstand or if I just forgot to put it down. It happened too fast (while still being in slow motion) to remember the details. No damage at all as I sort of caught it on the way down. I had it up again before anyone noticed. I think. I sort of had tunnel vision on the way into the store. I didn't really want to look around and see people laughing.

Yeah, they should give you a couple extra battery straps and an extra clutch lever when you buy the bike. I snapped mine off when the bike stalled as I was pulling out of a parking lot.

scratched up the mufflers, mirror and bent the heck out of the clutch lever. I actually broke the lever off trying to bend it back to a usable position. I was thinking, "nice.. no biggie, and I can get the lever replaced in a few days.. just bend it a biii.... f__k."

nothing quite like holding a formerly attached clutch lever in your hand after just having snapped it off.

I also had my old honda fall over while it was on the kickstand.. the stand sunk into the nice soft ground, and over the bike went..

Dumb A$$!

Just kidding. I hope that never happens to me. Especially not with witnesses. I had a close call in my garage (really slick concrete floor) not to long ago. I put my foot down on a piece of hard candy that was left there by my kids. My left foot slipped about 10" before I gained traction. Man I was scared for about a second. Now I look at what I am stepping down on. Oil at an intersection can do the same thing. Be careful out there.

Once, long, long ago... I stopped to get gas, got off the bike, turned to the pump, and had my hand on the pump handle when I heard a crash. Thinking to myself, "What the heck was that?", I turn around with the pump handle in my hand to see my little bike lying on its side, rocking... (as were all of the witnesses to the incident, I suppose)... It sure was crowded at the gas station that day.

I was about to tell the exact same story. This happened to me and my former bike (vstar 1100) last year. I never heard the crash though I just turned around to fill er up and she was laying on the ground. No one was around thank God.

Well Dryheat, you are officially a member of the Scrambler dropping club. You can read about my Scrambler dropping fiasco by clicking here.

You can console yourself with the knowledge that you did two things absolutely correctly when dropping your Scram, and, without even being instructed to do so.Congratulations!

First, and most important, you dropped it on the left side, the non-pipe side. This saved your beautiful Scrambler pipes from being damaged.

Second, before your bike had a chance to hit the ground, you threw your body underneath it,to cushion it's fall, thus minimizing damage to the machine. This is a maneuver that takes lightning reflexes, and split second timing.Good job! I was too slow to get underneath mine, and look how badly it got scratched up.

After all, yours came away basically unscathed.A shifter peg is easily fixed with a bolt and a chunk of fuel line, and clutch levers are for sissies anyway.

All kidding aside,I'm glad nothing is hurt but your pride. And I'm amazed your dealer actually had that shift peg in stock. If you read my posts on that above link, you'll see my frustration in trying to find a clutch lever.I was really in a hurry for it,because I had taken the following week off from work, just to do some riding.

I ended up spending a small fortune on Pazzo levers, mostly because they could get them to me in three days. The best anyone else would guarantee me was 7. I really like the Pazzos, but I tell you,if I break one,I'm going to cry like a little girl.

Cheers!
Bruce
