+1 for the running to work. If I had a 2 mile commute, I'd be able to get a 4 mile run in everyday of the work week. provided you have good weather often, it could be quite enjoyable

Your battery will soon tell the tell. When you start the bike it will take about 10 miles to re-juice. Two miles can't do it. Ride an extra eight miles if you can and enjoy the bike a bit more. Two miles per ride just doesn't allow all the parts to get up to temp or proper running sync.

I've been riding three and a half miles to work every sunny day for four years now {on this bike}. No problem with rust after a good warm up before riding. I had to buy a battery this year because I neglected to fill it. I did the bicycle thing for a while but keeping up with appointments after work were getting too tough. Just ride it man! The bike will be fine and so will your spirit.

Bikes have been used for years by courier services and such without any dire effects. It would be lovely if we could all pedal or run but life has a funny way of interfering. I'd look rather silly jogging to work with the 20 pounds of crap I carry on most days.

Give your bike an extra minute of warm-up and it will be fine. My commute is about 20 miles now and I let the bike run at high idle for maybe a minute before I ride off. I'll keep an easy pace for the first couple of miles or so.

Our old house was 2.5 miles from work. I'd let the bike warm for about 2-3 minutes before I left. Never had a battery problem or worry and I ride nearly every day regardless of the weather.

It won't hurt a bit!

Mate I ride a little 2001 GZ250 Suzuki to work and back every day and I only have a short commute. I think it's about 2 miles each way. I have been doing so since 2004 and the bike is still on it's original battery (now 7 years old!) and runs like a top. It won't hurt your bike one bit because I'm sure you'll give it a nice run on the week-ends to clear her out. Just ride it and enjoy it!

Cheers,

Russ

If I were two miles from work, I'd be walking or bicycling in nice weather, and in the car when not so nice.

I'm 33 miles from my job, the usual route being via aforementioned hordes of homicidal maniacs, but there are some back roads available too, nice on days when the weather cooperates.

Scroll down to where it says "Why change your oil?"

Good info.

As always, you are free to do as you wish, just some cautionary stuff. Ride safe!
