Break it in hard!
Believe it or not my dealer recommended this type of break-in:

Yep, that's the way to do it properly.

OK what is going on when a motor breaks in?
#1 rings seal rings have to wear to match bores (this is most of the metal that wears in a engine during break in. rpms wont hurt rings breaking in .The main thing is to get the metal out of the oil .
# 2 cases ,jugs and head move around with heat till they get to where they will stay most of the normal life.So how do we help this? We start a new engine let it warm up cut it off let it cool off start it again let it warm up and go through this again.
#3 gears ,cams and valves wear to match what they run againest this may take some time but i dont think rpm will hurt this ether as long as engine heat is not to hot(friction makes heat as parts wear in.

What we want to do is keep oil changed to keep metal out .dont ride to far at high rpms so heat dont get to high.If you are going to run your motor fast and hard it will break in quicker letting it run alittle as long as you change the oil often till you dont see any metal in it.A ENGINE BUILT RIGHT can do max rpms after 30 min. run in time as long as you dont let it get hot.
