Man, I swore you said your bike had seen the business end of a HORSE once. I was going to comment that 1) that must have been quite a wreck and 2) that would certainly be a dirty bike!

I can't see what you guys have against washing your bikes every chance you get.
I treat my bike like my girlfriend, Every night I caress every inch of her with a soft sponge, dry her of, and then rub baby-oil [ACF50 anti corrosion formula] all over her beautiful body[-work] and when all thats done I get to r... ok said enough!

Amen!!! Thank You TEXAS94SF!! My Bonnie looks like I just completed the International Times Trials in Europe...been riding the least few weeks while it's pouring rain...it's filthy!! The guys at work that don't ride keep hounding to clean it...we have some awesome weather today...76 degrees...sunny...great ride this morning and on the way home today...but tomorrow it's suppose to rain in the morning...so cleaning would be a waist of time...cleaning supplies...water? She'll get a bath when we get a good stretch of sunny, warm weather!!

NOW RIDE!!!

RIDE I TELL YOU!!!

Cheers!
Mondo

By the way- I wish I could have bought "Ringadingdoo", but they wanted a bit out of my proce range! HA!

I think I've washed one of my motorcycles maybe twice in the last 5-6 years. I usually hit the charity circle for the $5 bike washes 4-5 times per season, but those are more for donating to the cause, and getting a chance to BS with a few dozen other riders, then actually going to get the bike cleaned. I do admit I'll occasionally blast off the bugs with a hose, but soap doesn't usually come into the equation.

Just yesterday, as I was assassinating insects with my face shield,
headlight, and fuel tank, I was thinking that I never have a clean bike. I always seem to ride after I clean it up. Yesterday, after I cleaned up the golf cart (before the flames start, golf carts are used for transportation in my community, I havn't played golf in years) I decided I should get some bugs off and fuel stains from the tank, etc. After the aformentioned insects, when I stopped for fuel, the bike still looked well ridden.

I've always heard that Pledge contains silicone and shouldn't be used on finished surfaces. It looks shiny for a brief time but dulls quickly. Builds up. And is not good for finish repairs (I used to work on guitars).

I occasionally use Meguier's Mirror Glaze Swirl Remover on the tank. Does a great job of removing minor surface scratches and giving it a like new look. It's mildy abrasive so I use it only a couple times a season.

Martin Guitar Polish also works great for cleaning and polishing the tank.

I guess this must be the macho thread. Why wouldn't you guys want to keep your Triumphs clean? I plan on keeping mine for a long time, and I love the comments I get about how beautiful she is.

Hey, I love to ride, but 10 minutes of cleaning before or after a ride will ensure you can enjoy your Triumph longer. A dirty bike rusts and corrodes much quicker.

If you guys want to ride dirty and corroded bikes thats fine with me, but I prefer to ride a sweet looking bike that turns heads at every intersection.

I was fortunate enough to work at a Crash/Rescue firehouse on a Navy installation when I was a teenager and developed an appreciation for keeping equipment clean and in tip tip shape. It was impossible to tell the age of the crash trucks because they were all immaculately clean. I've always treated my vehicles with the same level of respect and consistently am pleased with the results. It only takes a few minutes a day when you make it a habit and hardly compromises riding time. Through the years, I have discovered many potential problems before they became real problems while going over my bikes. Different strokes for different folks.

Talking

As an alternative, you could consider cleaning (or riding) your bike instead of starting threads on these forums!!!
