Today
I must confess that today I cleaned my Bonnie. But then she really deserved it, as I had let her become filthy, dirty

I try to keep a 50/50 balance between clean and dirty.

Once you get past the first few scuffs and scratches it's like owning an old guitar - gives it some charm. I think I'm ready for a flat paint job and pipe wrap.

Three products: Plexus, Can-do and Pledge. The first two are designed for plastic, and Pledge is a non-abrasive cleaner. Add a soft cloth (not paper) towel and I can clean up the bike in a few minutes. First the face shield, then the windscreen -- they go first, then the headlight, tail light, tank, side covers and finally the forks and fenders. I have a "magic cloth" for the chrome, and that makes the bike presentable and avoids scratches from the tank bag.

That's all it takes, and the bike looks great.

I bought a package of terrycloth shop towels at Costco, and they just go in the washing machine. Now, chain lube, cleaning the wheels and chain guard is a whole 'nother story!

Just because we're in RAT doesn't mean we ride rat-bikes!

Clean them for pictures. . . ha ha ha ha. That is plain awesome. I do clean but only when the weather turns nasty and keeps me off of her, or if I have a hot date with the other half. Only 2 baths in 4000 miles, i do however regularly get the bugs off the tank and side cover and wax those.

I'm in Gonzo's camp. I averaged 975mi per month last year and my bike is cleaner than when it left the showroom.

Well how dare you spend time doing that instead of riding?

Honestly, it's too bad that some people apparently feel the need to apologize for washing their bikes. They're your bikes; do whatever you want to them. For my part, I've spent time customizing mine, which time I suppose I could have spent riding it. So sue me.

By the way, isn't there some validity to the argument that a frequently cleaned bike lasts longer?

In the medical/dental fields it's "Clean hands, clean mind -- choose one."
