Bobbed fenders - riding in the rain..?

For those of you that has bobbed front and rear fenders, have you noticed any drawbacks with regards to riding in heavy rain?

Just got a "new" front fender on ebay, and looking for a rear one as well, which I will chop down a bit. For the front fender I'm thinking of taking most off from the front part (removing the front stay) and just a little amount of the rear part.

Haveing a stock shorty front fender on the SV, most of the spray from the front wheel seems to hit the engine and rad., don't want that on the Bonnie....

I used to have a Thruxton rear fender on my bonnie, and that seemed to be pretty good about not throwing water up on me, but now I have a really short rear fender and it does sling water up.

Can't say for the front fender, I have an sv front end.

I wish it was rain. Last week my wife and I played hookie and took a nice ride along the bucolic roads of eastern Connecticut. It was truly a beautiful day, me on my Bonneville and her on her new love, an orange and black Nightster.

As we came to a curve in the road a soccer mom in a minivan flashed her lights at us. I thought that was nice of her to warn us of a police officer with a radar gun up ahead. And then there it was ................ a farmer had dumped at least a ton of liquified manure on the road. We rode through it, at least fifty feet, without dumping (no pun intended) our bikes. Afterwards we looked like a scene from a comedy movie covered in fertilizer.

Both of our bikes have short fenders ........... that was a day I wished I leaned towards function over looks.

OK boys let's break out the Delorean with the Flux Capacitor and go back to the manure scenes. I'm sure Oldguys didn't take pictures, but they might not have compared to the images in my mind.

No problems...I have both front and rear bobbed quit a bit and ride in the rain daily...weekly...monthly...Portland, Oregon...if it's raining, either ride or stay home!!

Anyhow, I have had no problems...My tail bag never gets anything from the rear tire...as for the front fender (lower), the down tubes and motor are filthy most of time...and the chopped upper portion of the front fender does allow a "spit" of water at speed...but then I'm soaking wet (gear of course) by then and enjoying the ride!!

I say go for it!!

If your riding in the rain, your getting wet. A little more water on your back won't hurt. I bobbed the hell out of my speedmaster fender and haven't noticed any real difference.
