Where is my Triumph made?

I have seen multiple insinuations that Triumphs are being made in Asia somewhere. I have a 2007 Bonneville T100 and I have found nothing to say otherwise than it is made in the UK. What are the facts?

The quick check is the 11th character of your vin "J" = Jacknell road Hinckley England or "T" = Chonburi Thailand. The code seems to vary around the world, but this works for U.S. bikes.

My oldest daughter was made in the back seat of a Toyota. She would be no different if she were made in the front seat. Reading past posts on the VIN letter denoting origin would clarify, no doubt, the first two sentences of this reply.

Well if this is true then mine is made in Thailand. When did they start doing that? I always liked Triumph and that is why I bought one. I feel like a dunce since I have been telling everybody it is made in the UK.

Its soul began in Great Britain. all engines are assembled there and shipped to Thailand. And actually , final assembly is at your dealer. Its a British motorbike just like my Honda civic is a Japanese automobile even though final assembly was in the colonies.

I have heard the same about the engines being made in UK and shipped, I would imagine the tanks are as well (remove your seat and you will see a signature) and I think that the frames were made in the UK for a while. I wouldn't let it bother you even the UK assembled bikes are made up from parts from all over the world. I visited a dealer recently and all of the classic range had the "T" designation.

So if I'm eating spaghetti at a restaurant in Chinatown and it's cooked by a Latino but served by a Pakistani, is it still Italian food?

Yes!

Relax, your bike is a British bike. Just look at the bad teeth!

I spoke to a guy who's been in the bike business for 60yrs and thought the bikes made in Thailand might actually be better quality than those in the UK. (chrome, pitting, etc)

Dont worry, just ride the bike and enjoy it.
