Posting Pictures
This took a bit of experimenting and persistence on my part to learn. Are others having problems? If so maybe we can help ... because we all really like pictures.

The way most of us use, is to upload our pics to photobucket (or another free online album). Then either copy the img tag into the thread, which will show up as a thumbnail. Or even easier (& better IMO), copy & paste the pic directly into the thread.
Hope that helps
Scratch

Old Scratch - I use the Photobucket approach, too. However, I think there must be some differences in how we're configured. When I post a photo to P/bucket for the sole purpose of posting to RatNet, I then resize it (on Photobucket), then with a few clicks I work my way back to the page of small images containing that file. I then copy the "IMG" link and paste that into my RatNet post.
The difference is that mine doesn't come up as a thumbnail, but to whatever size I previously resized it.
Go figure!

The magic word is - hosting! I don't know if this is made clear enough to non-computer people, but even on my short time on the board, I've seen it explained a number of times. It will come up again and again, regardless of the quantity or "stickiness" of instructions.
Something that seems simple to a computer person can be daunting to someone who has no experience. We tend to take it for granted and just say "it's simple". We all have our own areas of doubt and uncertainty. I've been working with computers for well over thirty years... what looks simple to me, may not be to someone else... the other side of that coin is that I have no idea how to program my mobile phone
Photobucket etc. offer a great service... personally, I host myself on my own web-site, but these free on-line services are the way to go for anyone trying to get into digital image posting.

Bish - you make a good point. Back in the day, I sold for the Friden Divison of Singer in the late 60's and early 70s. Friden Flexowriters and Computypers. Pre-personal computer days, when a non-disk billing machine with paper tape in and out sold for $15-20K US in 1970 dollars.
When working for 3M in 1982, they shipped me an IBM PC with 640k of memory, and a whopping 10m hard drive, enough today for a couple of hi res photos. So, I've been around computing for a while, and still get lost more times than I care to admit.
Those of us who were pulled into this stuff, kicking and screaming, several years ago have to appreciate the steep learning curve someone faces who may be using a computer for the first time, especially if most of their experience is strictly web access.
Bob
BTW - +1 on the cell phone thing! I saw one recently in AARP mag more to my liking. No camera, just a memory for numbers, big keypad, and yes/no interface.

It would be good - especially on the largely neglected trip report forums,
if we could include more than 4 pictures per post.
This is the only site I know that has this limitation.
It just causes more difficulties and time for those posting whilst riding the roads and using i/net cafes to post their reports.
