Here's a full face helmet mod for cold weather!!

A couple years ago I got tired of cold 30 and 40 degree F air blowing in up passed my chin so I decided to do something about it. I thought I'd share this with you guy's because it's something you can do with a needle and thread. I made one of these for myself and now I made some for the rest of the family. Here's a pic of what I made. One with and one without.

I'm no good at sewing but I just have to do things myself and I already had the material for making neck warmer's for everybody. Anyone who's good at this stuff please bare with me. First I needed some kind of stretchy velvety material like a pile fabric. It should stretch one way but not the other.

Next I folded it in half and put it on the bottom of the chin guard in order to see how much material I needed. I marked it with some find of marker I use with wood working but I think chalk would work the best.

I sewed along the line then cut a piece of 14 gage wire to fit around the seam.

Next I sewed the wire into the cloth on the out side of the wire.
I cut the excess material off around the outside of the outer seam.

I used a screwdriver my Dad gave me for my key chain to push the wire into the helmet.

I pulled on it to make sure it was embedded tight.

Here's a pic of how it covers's the chin and keeps out the cold. Along with a neck warmer it makes for a very comfortable ride.

Well what do you guy's think, wimpy, wonderful or what the heck are you trying to do Bryan? Any kind feedback or do it your selfer's info on this type of thing would be all right.

Looks good. Nice needlework. Can it be easilly removed for Summer? (remember Summer?) Or will they become dedicated Winter lids?

Great idea, Shoei sell one just like it for their helmets. I've been using one for the past two winters, and wouldn't be without one now.

It comes right out and goes into my tool bag for summer. Needle work is questionable.

That's EXACTLY what I need! Really nice how-to Bryan, I think I'll have to make one of these over the winter, for those nippy spring days.

Thanks!
