It's Bug Time
Tell us about your worst incident/collision/accident with a Bug/bird/etc.....
I picked up a bee in my helmet this summer while barreling down the highway at 105k. It proceeded to sting me on my left ear. Couldn't stop the bike fast enough to remove my helmet. I wonder what all the auto drivers thought seeing a leather clad biker throwing his helmet on the ground swatting his head repeatedly like he was in some sort of pain induced frenzy mode????
The ear survived but so did the image.....

Come on Gregger, no story can compete with the "bee in the helmet (or shirt) stories.
I did have an experience, however, this summer that was pretty wild. Something hit the top of my helmet so hard it threw my head back causing me to lose control of the bike for an instant or two. It was either the biggest bug ever, or maybe a bird, I don't know. I didn't see it coming. I can only thank God that I started wearing a helmet again. I can't imagine what that would have done to me during my helmetless riding days.

Okay a little off the bug thing but close enough to make you laugh. I was rideing a 65 Harley rigid and yes I OWNED it( Dont beat me or put me in solitary) any how it started to rain just a mist. Riding down the freeway trying to get home before the hard rain started to fall. I felt a sharp stinging in my left thigh really sharp so I pulled over thinking it was a bee. Dropped traugh side of the road thing no bee or spider nothing so I Kicked started the bike and off I went still rubbing the thigh. after abought two miles or so the sharp pian of stinging came back and it was worse. Once again over to the side of the road pulled the old pants down till I could turn them inside out NO BEE man I had to find this thing got back on the bike about three miles from the old shack and stinging started again. I looked down and the rear plug wires was firing threw the mist coming up of the road about 3/4 of a inch right into my leg seems the wire was cracked but people on the highway got a dang show that day Horror Show anyway.

Got smacked
by a beetle at about 65 right in the lips (yea mouth was closed) but the entire mouth went numb an I started pursing my lips out of reflex and after a few seconds when the feeling started coming back, I felt legs moving between my lips tried to spit the thing out and it had latched on! I had to pull off and tear that thing off my lower lip which it had pierced nicely. ( it did taste pretty bad when I accidentally bit into it.) That sucker was about an inch and a quarter long, no idea what kind it was.
The other funny one happened on tn116 near brushey mtn state pen one of the women in the group just stopped dead it the middle of the road and (our group scattered all over the road trying to stop) and stripped down in the middle of the road! She had hit a swarm of bees and they went up her pants and down inside her jacket and shirt. She was ok but stung about a dozen times.

Several years ago, I was pulling into the workplace parking lot, maybe riding 20mph, when I noticed a huge shadow coming from my left side, then felt the impact of an attacking goose. Lucky for me I was wearing a helmet, because the goose plopped between my arms, sat on the gas tank and began a vicious pecking attack on my face shield. This was followed by a blast of goose barf (lots of slimy half-chewed grass) all over my jacket. I grabbed it by the neck and pitched it off the bike..... while moving. A couple of my fellow workers who witnessed it were disappointed they didn't capture the action on video!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past 25 years, several smaller birds have flown into my helmet. The impact must send them sky-high, because it takes a few seconds for them to appear in the rear view mirrors as they hit the road.

I've only been stung on the corner of my right eye while riding once. It can't compare to any of your stories, so I'm going to declare Bob (ohiorider) the winner thus far! The beetle one is pretty gross though!

I was riding up to deals gap earlier this year and a wasp got caught in my visor. It looked like the wasp made it through but the visor clipped down on his wings. So it was held there flailing it's legs at me and trying to sting my mouth and nose, which were about 1/2 an inch away from it. Not that big of a deal until you here that when I was about 7 I tripped running through my grandfathers woods. When I landed I was staring directly into a ground wasps' nest. I think the doctor said I'd been stung over 17 times above my neck. Let's just say I'm a little leery around bee's and such. Talkin' about them gives me the heeby-jeebies!

The best one I heard here was the guy ridin w/ a new GF & shorts. A wasp flew in his crotch & started stingin him. He pulled off & stripped naked in ft of the new GF!
I have had many bug incidents! I did a post a while back on embarrassing moments- check it out! There is nothing to compare a lg june bug hitting you in the chest @ 80 mph tho!!

Whenever I hit a bee or a wasp they always manage to get their sting into me before being splatted. How do they do that? Is it their reflexed reaction to impending doom? Or am I just unlucky? One for Mythbusters maybe?
