What to do when the plan go south? long

Head North of course.

JRH and I had an interesting little ride today.
It just all fell apart. We had a great time. Somehow we always do.

As usual, we had a loose plan.
We were to meet up at 9am Sunday and do a couple of quick little loops up on the hill and then drop back down into L A and get some Greek food at a festival held my one of the local churchs. We were both looking forward to it. A nice relaxed day.

I get a call at 8am on sunday from JRH saying he is running late. I tell him that he woke me up and my alarm clock has been going off for an hour.
I have 15 minutes to get out the door and be somewhat on time.

I make the meet 10 minutes late. JRH is nowhere to be seen. So I walk over to the 7-11 and get some money and a cup of coffee. I get back to the meet point and no JRH. No problem, sit on down and wait. Round about 9:45 guess who shows up? We laugh and he goes inside and gets a cup of coffee. we sit on down and start talking story. By the time we finish it's about 10:15 and we still haven't ridden a single yard.
No problem we got time.
we head on up the hill and it quite obvious from the get go that everybody and their mother is here. we stop at the look-out at the top and deside that this just ain't for us. To many people.

The plan is allready out the window so why bother to stick to it. It's hard to argue with that so I ask him what he had in mind. He suggested that we do a "breakfast ride". I just looked at him in uncomprehending disbelief.

I finally asked, What the hell is a "breakfast ride"
He was kind enough to paciently explain that, that is when you go for a short ride to a place that serves food and you go inside and eat.

"Oh, you mean like the HDers? says I.
"yes like the HDers", says he.
having no real experience in such matters and being rather intriqued, I defered to his sugestion.

a whole 18.5 miles later we arrived at the destination.
The place was packed with (take a guess). More were soon to follow.

an 1 1/2hours and 3500 calories later, we deside it is time to leave.

As we waddled out to the bikes, it was agreed upon that although this experience was not totally disagreeable, such a lackadaisical approach could be habit forming and lead to sloth.
It was allso agreed that it is lucky that there are no "waffle Houses" in the area, as this would lead to repeated transgressions.

It's now 11:30 and we've ridden less than 25 miles.

We struck a new plan. ride just down he road pick up Aliso Cyn and angeles forrest back to the bottom on the hill. Maybe 45miles.

Off we go ondown the road. we turn off on Aliso CYN and head further on down. we come to an intersection and instead of turning off on Aliso we head in the other direction.
No problem, we'll just pick up Aliso further down.
The pace ( or lack there of) was relaxed at best.
we get back on Aliso and head on down the road to Angeles Forest Hwy.
As usual, we stopped just before the intersection to have a talk and do whatever gentleman do on the sides of roads.

somebody suggested that we could allways go down the back side and go down Mt Emma Rd a little way.
sure, why not. It's a beutifull day. Nice and clear and mild.
we head on down the the hill and turned onto Mt Emma and after 20 or so miles we stop and it was suggested that we could go just a little bit further and see The devil's punch bowl. we haven't been since last year so it was good to go and check to see if it was still there.
It was. Looked pretty much the same as the last time we saw it.
Jrh said that it would be a shame if we can "all this way" and we turned back now. The best part is just ahead. we should at least go to the back side of the Crest.
He was right of course, so off we went. It's only 30 miles. Surely we can make it.
we stopped at the agreed upon place and stood there for a minute as we looked around.
I pointed out that we were kinda low on gas and that we should continue on at least to wrightwood 20 miles further on. After all I pointed out, it is the closest gas.
We got our gas and were standing there talking when JRH mentioned that it would just be easier to continue around the back side instead of doubleing back.
doubleing back would take forever (Oh yea, sure. about 1.5 hours if we could actually find 4th gear).

We headed down the road and promptly blew past our turn-off out of town. It didn't really matter They both go to the same place. The road was freshly paved and smooth. As the day was getting late (1:30 in the afternoon) we really put the hammer down. I did 70 UP.!! Man were we flying. I even passed a car.
The 60 miles back on the blocks were torture. There were all these cars on our road. I don't know what they were all doing there, but they were inconvienient to say the least.

We stopped agian and said our goodbyes and he went home to start the BBQ and I went home to take a nap.
all that riding had really worn me out.

After reading about our little trip last weekend, some people might be under the impression that JRH and I wake up at 3 in the morning bright eyed and bushy tailed. Throw on the kit and beat it to the bottom of the hill where we eyeball our watchs and drum our fingers as we impatiently wait for the sun to rise, and ride with the urgency of shackled convicts running from the hounds.

silly rabbit, TRICKS ARE FOR KIDS

Peace.
Cause it's all good.
Be a kid not a rabbit.
Just ride.

Ps: at the end of the day what did it all boil down to?
A 100 mile loop we never made.
No Greek food.
something called "breakfast"
And a 30 mile return that was 120miles long.

We have some "organised" rides that turn out like that. Sounds like you had a good day.....I couldn't get anyone out over the weekend, all had excuses, HD in the shop, VStar repaint, babysitting, missed your SMS message etc. So went for a solo ride, awesome day out, sun shining great view, great coffee stops and plenty of other bikers..
