' B A S H I N G ' in general is counter productive,
and just as important.....
is how it demeans the person doing the bashing. In addition it belittles the site to which they are posting. Certainly negative comments about the less-privileged or handicapped would be just as inappropriate.

On each of the various sites I've frequented (BMW R1150R, Triumph Sprint RS, Triumph Bonneville, and Yamaha FZ1, to include the "girl's bike" Sportster sites), posters seem to forget that there are quite a few former and/or current Harley riders actively engaged in that site!

So the bashers are not only showing little respect for the message board, but are giving little respect to their fellow enthusiasts.....

In my opinion Mr. Grand Webmaster......
there was no need to close with an apology.

Funny thing is, i rarely ever see Harley bashing here. That is, HARLEY bashing. I see Harley RIDER bashing all the time tho ! Harleys are just fine. I don't happen to like their design, but thats just my taste, not because they're garbage or anything like that. They have their strong and weak points just like Triumphs. I just happen to like the Triumph's balance of strong to weak and where they each lie. The bashing that goes on is usually because of the rather inordinate amount of HD riders who many feel seem to have a superiority complex. I feel thats true, and it's not to say they are all like that. i just see it a lot and never really noticed it from any other riders. I have good friends who ride them and even they seem to feel they are superior. I feel my bike is superior, but i never say anything to them along those lines.

So i suggest we start referring to it as HD rider bashing.
I've spent relatively little time on this board but I've looked at a lot of the posts and I've yet to see one instance of an HD rider coming to this board and posting anything about their bikes being superior. In fact I rarely see anything posted from an HD owner at all.
What you in fact have is the same thing that goes on as just about every other non-HD board I've ever seen: someone mentions the HD word and is is an immediate call for just about everyone and their dog to vent their spleen on their perceived view of HD motorcycles and riders.
Most of the time the poster is spewing recycled bs they learned from their friends, who probably learned it from another friend. It is relatively rare (in my experience at least) that the poster actually has any significant first hand experience with the bikes or the riders.
As to my own background I've owned 45 or so motorcycles in 38 years of riding. Four have been HD, three have been Triumph. I expect I will own at least one HD machine for the rest of my riding career, the same may very possibly be true for Triumph but is less certain because I don't know where they are going to go with product design.
Truth of the matter is I believe I have really valid reasons for owning an HD beyond looks and sound but would rarely share them because frankly it gets old having to listen to the braying of the bashers.
I don't come to a board, any board, and run down a bike. I've owned lots of bikes, all had their pros and cons. Some I liked, some I quite simply didn't like (often for reasons not at all related to function) . I would share that, but I would also be careful to point out that it doesn't matter much if I liked it because someone else is going to be in love with it, and that does matter.
So I very much appreciate what your webmaster has said here, well stated and timely.

I agree, but then i never said anything about having experienced that online. I've been around a lot of harley guys since i was a kid. My buddys brother who i've known for 50 years rode/rides one and rode with a ton of HD guys and i learned firsthand what the harley atttitude is. They'd show up at my buddys house for years and often made no bones about how pathetic my bikes were when i rode there. Maybe not everyone sees it....could be where you live or who knows what.

By the way, if we were to talk about online attitudes, any HD riders with said attitude certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to go to a triumph board to spout off ! But in any case, i'm talking life experience, not online. And mind you not all HD riders have an attitude. If anything it's a minority, but it does exist and i never see it with riders of other brands. Theres a big difference between having pride in what you ride and wanting to shove it in other rider's faces, and thats the attitude i have seen that makes me uncomfortable.

I've made it a point in my life never to "bash" women ,children or the handicapped and as many HD riders fall within one or more of those categories of course it is demeaning and uncivilized to "bash" HD riders. We should not criticise those who prefer agricultural equipment.Having said that any motorized two wheel mode of transport is far superior to four or even three wheels ;-) :-D kit:
