Here's a link to an album of before/during/after pics.

http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...inished004.jpg

The bike started out as a wrecked 2004 Bonnie Black (5700 miles). If you're curious, here's the list:

Engine- '04 790 now has the South Bay Triumph treatment-
6.3mm stroker crank, Carillo rods, 11-1 pistons, 904cc Nikasil barrel, "813" cams, 5-angle valve job, ported and matched, 2mm oversize intake valves, exhaust ports enlarged, billet intakes, FCR39's, Barnett clutch, Nology coil and Hot Wires, stock 790 ignitor module (for now) Total displacement now 984cc. Goals for power output= 100 rwhp, 70 lb/ft tq.
Tuning is in progress. I've had it out for two weekends now and put about 1000 miles on it, and had it on the dyno once for a gas trace to get the mains close.

Frame- stock 04 Bonneville

Exhaust- Specialty Spares 1 3/4" OD TT pipes with owner-fabbed "snuff-or-nots". These are raw polished steel for now until I fit the final exhaust system, with Matt Capri's new reverse cones. Then I'll either chrome it or coat it. I love the way it sounds right now but it's pretty loud. As one onlooker commented " that thing is an affront to everything decent in this world"....

Suspension- Thruxton tubes with stock Bonnie sliders, Ikon progresive springs, 15w oil, Ikon stock Bonnie length 7610 shocks with "222" chrome springs.

Brakes- EBC-HH pads front and rear with stock calipers, EBC 310mm floating front rotor.

Wheels/tires- Excel polished alloy 4.25'x17' rear, 2.5'x18' front, polished stainless spokes and nipples from Buchanans, Bridgestone BT-021 radials 160/70ZR17 rear, 110/80ZR18 front, DID gold 525 x-ring chain. Chain clearance is 1/2" with no offset required.

Paint- '67 TT Special scheme done in PPG Candy Purple urethane and clear over gold base, with bright white base for the wings and gold coach lines, T100 badges

Seat- 67-70 Bonnie seat cover from Walridge stretched over the stock Hinckley seat pan/foam, with a little shaving/persuading/bolstering to make it look right.

All the Other Stuff- Polished alloy fenders, '67 tail light, '67 fender hoop, Beston 1" Gran Turismo grips, Western bars, stock levers, polished and lowered Norman Hyde "TX" fender brace, fork boots, and socket head engine cover bolt kit, all from Bella Corse. Stock fender stays shortened and reworked and painted black, all engine covers and the fork sliders stripped and polished, Thruxton instument panel, Bella Corse Chrome mini oval mirrors (Arlen Ness Cat Eye) on owner fabbed stems, Custom Dynamics LED blinkers inside the tail light lens and on the headlight ears.

Man,some of those before images made me cringe. The "new" bike is totally sweet. The seat came out great, the fork brace awesome, the paint, perfect,to fool a lot of sport bikers. Great job.

Nice looking lump of junk Scott - that's what it was the last time I saw it at least. Can't wait to see it in person.

did you have the crank/rods/etc balanced, or did you leave in the counterbalancers?

I've been very interested in your bike's tale. Awesome resurrection, and a fantastic build. You obviously have taste, skill, and vision. I just paint everything black...I don't have the eye for colors but your bike looks fantastic, and I'm sure goes like a banshee too.

You've raised the bar with this one.

Thanks very much for the kind words, guys!

Steve- yes it has already fooled some people. I crept up on guy on a Duc this afternoon who was very surprised to look in his mirrors and find me glued to his arse...! When we got to the gas station, he yelled at me "DUUDE! whadya got in that thang??" It must be very strange to look back and see something old with a big round headlight that won't go away...

Bud- If ya bring yer sick beast over I'll take a look at it and ya can take the TT for a spin.

Sweat- I left the balance shafts in per Matt's instructions, but I did remove the camshaft backlash gears, also per his guideance. It absolutely does not vibrate any more than normal. but the cams do rattle a little. Nothing untoward, just distinctive, as is the idle which gets some attention at stoplights.

Aaron, did you get to the album yet??

I'm reassembling my motor this week, the cases are currently split. I'm thinking of taking off the backlash gears myself.

Is there a whine, like a supercharger, or a gear drive cam, or is it more of a 'rattle' as you describe? I read you can gain 1-2hp by removing them.

It stands to reason that saving weight in the valvetrain should bring some benefit. Matt made no claim of what that might be, only that the backlash gears are there to reduce noise and are not really needed. The noise is a rattle at idle, not a loud rattle, and you don't hear it above idle. You will however hear it rattle more loudly if you lug the motor too much. It looks wierd when you assemble it too because the cam gears are not in the center of the drive gear.
