Curious...

Am I the only person who thinks that parking spaces do not apply to me and that all those big sidewalks outside of stores, restaurants, bars, etc are puuuuuuuurfect for parking the Bonnie?

I usually do it cause folks cannot see in the spaces well and could hit my bike as EVERYONE in Atlanta is in a hurry.

Just curious to what others do and if I am being rude.

I have found that most establishments are very cool with it and often compliment the bike. Having D&Ds, I have to make sure I either kill the engine early or be vewy vewy kwiet.

I don't like automobile parking spaces either. I look for unused nooks and corners that a car can't fit into, or nice, wide walkways.

I like to park next to the bicycle rack.

Depends on where. At work I could probably get away with it, but I park in the same place everyday anyway.

Since people know I have a F350 Crew Cab Long Bed, they usually don't park right next to me. That leaves way too much room when I take the Thrux.

Now when I am out, if I don't like the look of the parking lot, I park where it looks safe. I have never had a problem. The only thing I get is people that want to talk about the bike. I like that problem.

Over the years I have encountered those who react as above and those who don't. I had an old guy swearing and shaking his cane in my face for being on a "wide" sidewalk. I still park where I please but within reason. You also increase your chances of vandalism from the annoyed ones.

I think it's not rude but if anything a considerate thing to do ! Why? because where i work there is a very bad lack of parking and bikers often park between cars ! And i mean to the point where they block the cars in. Twice this week i've seen this to the point where the cars could not get out, and man does that pi$$ me off ! I saw one guy going back and fourth maybe 20 times trying to pull out. I left so i don't know if he ever made it, but he had so little space i can't see how he could have. then another guy was just sitting in his car with the door open and one leg out just looking all around for the biker to come out so he could leave. I walked by with helmet in hand and he looked so relieved to see me till i told him that wasn't my bike. i felt bad for the guy. Personnaly if it were me i'd have moved the bike into a red zone and left ! Just because i'm a rider myself doesn't mean i don't hate people who do such stupid things.

So parking on the sidewalk, assuming you aren't blocking anything, is IMO a considerate thing to do considering the options that some morons take.

No, I don't think that you are being rude. I like to
park in nooks, and small places close to the
coffee shop. The only bad thing is ubder a tree
the birds leave stuff on the bonnie sometimes. :???:

I park my bike in my garage. When I take it out of the garage I mostly keep riding it.

Along SIDE the road is a WALK way, i.e. "sidewalk"

Unless it is designated as an area for "motorcycle parking", a sidewalk upon which to trust your steed is a gamble at best, or "rude" at worst. And I've taken that gamble.....

Some azzhole at work ruined it for the rest of us when he parked his bike on the sidewalk just prior to a HUGE area that would have been a VASTLY superior choice to have parked. He blocked access for those legally parking in the disabled parking, to roll or limp past his bike upon getting out of their car. He wasn't thinking, which resulted in a "Motorcycle Parking" area to be designated clear on the most distant extreme opposite corner of the parking lot. Nobody parks there, not even motorcycles.

Recently I rode into "the City" to check out a "biker bar." In front, parked on the sidewalk, was an old BMW. So I parked there too..... apprehensive though I was.

When I went inside (and stepped over the Pit/Boxer), I asked the barkeep about my choice of parking and if it was cool..... She advised that I was courting a very serious, VERY EXPENSIVE ticket, but that others may choose to park there. She also pointed out a motorcycle parking area across the street, complete with a machine into which you fed your money to park there legally.

I thanked her, set my stuff down, ordered a (fantastic!) Bloody Mary, and went out to move my bike. As a result of moving my bike, and not having to worry about feeding the meter (Fourth of July), I was able to sit comfortably inside the bar, smoke a cigar, and later nurse a Jack & Water.

It may be different in different parts of the country, but it's not a good idea to park on the sidewalk here. With regard to automotive parking spaces, I park in the forward half of them, angled slightly, and on the center-stand. My motorcycle is as much a vehicle to be afforded as much respect as a full size car, and this is an opportunity to express it as such.

In my opinion it is also a more serious risk to be mixing alchohol and motorcycling. You need every bit of focus and balance to ride motorcycles, not to be mom, but it just isn't a good idea.
