Just rode a 120 miles on the freeway.
Running around a steady 70,according to optimistic speedometer.
The bike is a 2004 Speedmaster.
17T front sprocket.
TBike pipes.
Unifilter drilled along with airbox mod.
Snorkel removed.
130 mains.
Thruxtun needles,no shims.
Side Gapped plugs.
I got a little over 41 mpg.
The bike does run pretty good, but I thought it should get better mileage.
Am I expecting to much?

You're right about average from what i've seen in all the MPG posts i've read. thats pretty much exactly what i was getting too. I checked it a few times and was getting about 42. Since i side gapped tho i seem to be up 1-2 MPG, possibly more because i've been riding a it harder since i did it. Tho i also removed a shim about the same time so that could be part of it too. And maybe your thrux needles are keeping you from getting another couple or so MPG. I remember they gave me the richest midrange condition i ever had, tho just a hair more than the TBS w/3 shims. If you ever do try the TBS you may get a bit better, but i'm just guessing.

130 mains & 70 mph you were lucky to get that much. I wouldn't complain.

Thanks Dazco.
I ordered the TBS needles.
I will give them a try when they get here.
It will be a while as I was told they are coming from England.
The bike does run pretty good with the Thruxtons with no shims though.

Jerry,
You are probably right.
The 70mph was probably closer to 65 though.
My bike has a optimistic speedometer.
I guess the mpg is the sacrifice for a nice performance increase.
Thanks.

in the interest of better mileage, you could do what some have done and go to a 19 or 18 sprocket

My 790 Speedmaster gets 40-43 mpg on a regular basis - bafflectomy, 125 mains, lower 3" cut off snorkel, stock air cleaner, TBS needles with one shim, AI removed, 17 tooth.
