I've now got big flakes of paint coming off my lower forks - near where the mudguard bracing stay joins the fork. It started with little flakes but now is very obvious. Took it back to the dealer as I've 2 months to run on the warranty (I've done just over 10,000 miles) and he doesn't seem to think that there will be a problem having it done on the house.

Its disappointing though, as I did my homework before I bought the Bonnie and everyone said that build quality and reliability were top notch. I'm coming to the conclusion though that these bikes are not meant for all-year-round transport but for summer playtime only.

I might keep it for another year and trade up to a Tiger. Any thoughts...

If you look at some 2006 Bonnies when you're next in your dealer, you'll notice that the forks have a different finish on them. Presumably Triumph has realised at long last that the paint they were using was ****e

My 04 black bonnie is at the dealership getting the wiring harness replaced and the peeling paint on the front mudguard tended to. Curious, yours is an '04 too with paint issues. Wonder who else, if any, has had similar issues? Kirk

About a year ago when I was installing stronger fork springs in my front forks on my 01 Bonnie, I sanded the front fork lower legs to remove any chips, and using a gloss black epoxy engine block paint, repainted the lower legs. They now have a deep bright shine (like on the Meriden Bonnies), and I've had no further chipping. Did the same thing to the semi-gloss chain guard, and it too shines brightly! The brand of rattle can paint is Duplicolor. Goo stuff. Tommyturbo2

On my 01, some brake fluid must have splashed onto the top triple clamp and the paint has been peeling for years. I finally had enough and replaced it with a spare I had. I soaked the peeling clamp in paint stripper and stripped it to bare aluminum.

Next I'm going to polished it, and do the same to my spare lower clamp. I think polished triple trees will look killer.
