I know this has been brought up before, but I just ordered one from e-bay.....which was really Magneticdrainplug.com.

$11.59 shipped

Not a bad price if you plan on giving one a try.

E-bay store

*I forgot to mention, the website has been updated for Bonnies, and BA/SM's.

I believe a lot of filters have a magnet in them so you don't have to clean a drain plug? However, you can never get your oil too clean. First couple oil changes and you should not see filings anymore.

That has not been my experience. I have seen metal filings and chips for as long as I owned some cars and bikes. My Honda AUTO Trans (car) fills up the magnetic drain plug every 30,000 miles! So far my Bonnie has been putting out lots of filings on my Scott's SS oil filter with the magnet built in and I use the magnetic drain plug too! Why not get the "grinding coumpound" out of the engine if you can???

I've just put one on my Speedmaster, as someone on bonnevilleamerica pointed out, everytime you miss a clutch-less upshift, there's a sliver or two of metal that probably comes out of the drivetrain somewhere. Plus, with it being so cheap, how could it hurt?

Becareful using the magnetic drain plug that isnt completly sealed. I had one that had an exposed magnet.

That magnet somehow got sucked out into the crank case.

It was a pain in the butt finding it, had to take the ***** engine apart.

Even those that don't have a magnet are going to catch metal particles in the filter material anyway. It's not as if you're pumping metal filings back into the oil system in any case.

First couple oil changes and you should not see filings anymore.

By all rights, that should be true. But remember, there are many here who subscribe to the "tear it up sooner than later" school of engine break-in. The scoring and spalling that results from such treatment means metal wear will continue at a higher rate throughout the engine's (remaining) lifetime.

I have a VERY strong magnet that I stick onto the oil filter. This way I don't have to clean it like a magnetic drain plug. The particles are trapped inside of the filter where they belong. Next oil change I move the magnet onto the new filter and I'm done.

I think applying a magnet to the filter makes great sense, even if it is redundant. I'm going to adopt this as standard practice.

Some really good ideas here. Like someone once said " you can never have your oil too clean or your women too hot "

Christov - Can you tell me just what kind of magnet you use and where it can be found?

Thanks...
