Any of you guys out there had problems with flaking chrome? I was cleaning my bike the other day and several chunks flaked off the nearside damper spring! Pitting is one thing, but flaking? Do you think this could be a warranty issue?

Lobo,
I have the same yr/model and have no chrome issues, although I spend very little time in the wet.
I'm not a chrome specialist, but I would not even expect pitting, if you have stored it out of the rain and polished it regularly.
Peeling of the chrome, to me, would seem a product defect. I would think that one of the layers was not done properly, and would certainly make a claim to T.

Thanks Bob.
That was my thought exactly; I too think the flaking is due to poor bonding of the chrome - a manufacturing defect.

My bike is out and is ridden in all weathers, but it gets cleaned and polished every week.

Pitting started occurring on the wheels and on the bottom of the dampers very early on - it polishes out very easy - but flaking is a bit extreme I feel, so I'll be having a word with my dealer's when I take it in on Thursday to have the brakes sorted!

.... I think it was one of the Liverpool Fab 4, Johnny, I think put it this way:

"Flaking chrome is the first sign of insanity..."

or was it?

"Dandruff is the first sign of insanity..."

I've heard of a few. Can't imagine why it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Lobo,
Let us know what you find at the dealer's shop.

I have an '03 T100, now with 18,000 miles at the East coast of Florida. I park the bike at work, just a couple hundred yards from the beach - but I do put a cover on it a work, and it's garaged at h ome. This part of Florida has a vey corrosive atmosphere. I have not seen any flaking -- I do have some pitting and some rust -- maybe the chrome is short on nickel? But given the conditions here, I'm not surprised. However, an '05 T100 with flaking chrome should be a warranty issue -- if I don't get chrome flaking here, you shouldn't either.

Went to my dealer, Jack Lilley's today. They appear to agree with me on the flaking chrome issue and said they'll submit a claim to Triumph. They have suggested that I take some photo's as well, in case Triumph is not convinced! I'll wait to hear from the dealer as to what the result will be.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Lobo.
Don't know why I want to follow, particularly, since my chrome is, to this point, fine; but I think I want to be reassured that T is the type of company we all want to work with-one that backs up it's products. This probably becomes more important with all of the outsourcing done these days.
