I'm thinking of painting my stock rear foot rest hangers (in a box designated "original") black.
I have the chrome versions on now, and I know, that those of you who have chanced upon some of my posts may be raising an eye brow. Retreat from the planet Chromitarium?!

But, I'm thinking I've taken the chrome thing over board, at least for me.

So, if I want to paint the stock hangers black to match the black on the back end of the bike: do I need to strip, sand, prime,... What? I'm such a dunderhead that I hardly know what questions to ask. What kind and color paint?

Thanking you in advance.

Scott

I am no expert on paint but I have found a rattle can called Hammerite at Home Depot . This stuff works really well. I painted the frame on my 750 with it and people think I had a professional do it. Then I say no it's from a can and they start examining it much closer. I also used it on my saddlebag brackets and I think it looks better than any other brand I've seen.Click here to see how it looks on my brackets. I buy what they label as smooth, they also have hammered finishes. Be careful not to buy other brands of hammered finishes with similar label's.

I agree. Real Hammerite is the best. We use it on our outdoor training jigs and mock-ups. Some of these fixtures have seen near daily use for a decade and still look good. Goes right on over rust and seals it. Very tough stuff. The poor mans powder coat. :-D
