It just seemed like a way to get more out of an existing design without a major retooling. New models will come and old ones will go as they always do. I know a big twin is rumored and there are those who want a bigger remake of the Thunderbird. It's really all up to the Triumph company as to what they choose to market. Let's just hope they have this forum on their radar as I think they could stand to gain from it.

The clowns at Triumph added 75cc to the twin already and didn't manage to produce an appreciable amount of power over the 790cc engine, so I doubt that they could do much with an additional 34cc.... well, they might raise the price a bit... :-D

I could be wrong, and this is going to be controvercial so i hope i don't get flamed, but i have a feeling a smaller rocket wouldn't sell. I think the thing's engine is as fugly as it gets, and while this is just my opinion i would be willing to bet that a lot of people think the same and that a lot of those who own them buy them because they want a huge fast bike and are willing to look past that. But i think given the option of a bike with an engine that looked like the twins (not possible of course, but for the sake of the point) but had the same size and power i bet 95% of rocket owners would opt for that. So i think a smaller version wouldn't have the appeal of the big rocket because the big and fast part of the equasion would be gone, and at that point looks become more important because theres nothing you're getting as a trade-off for that fugly engine like you do with the R3. (ducking

Pete Twizz...I have a feeling Triumph goofed when they discontinued the TBS..Maybe they just wanted to clear the decks prior to the relaunch of the Bonneville.How many Bonnie would they sell if they already had a vaguely retro bike that would out perform the new Bonnie? People want "retro" and once they get it they usually say "I wish I had just a bit more oomph"...so I would not be a bit surprised if they come out with a three cylinder air cooled "Trident" or water cooled "hurricane/TBS" type package.PS ..saw a TBS for sale on Craigs list here;Speed Triple cylinder head,lots of other performance goodies...wow

A "stroker" loosely defined would be increasing the total travel of the piston within the cylinder. This can be accomplished with as little as off-set bearings or as radical as a different crankshaft, connecting rod and piston. This means the engine can "inhale" more air / fuel mix. ,..compressing it the same, less, or more,..(depending where the total piston travel is positioned). Bored and stroked is just as implied...bigger bore, more air / fuel...longer stroke,..more air / fuel.....MORE POWER!!!. The drawback is...well...are the remaining engine components up to the task of handling the increased stress without premature failure. Also with a longer stroke, usually a decrease in rpm to red line is required. Thats why HD's are not high rev engines. Power to pull stumps with bottom end torque, but that long stroke works against rpm.
So its a recipe of parts,...a blend of just the right bore, stroke, compression, balance and injection or carburation. Then apply it to the application.
