A friend and I are planning a trip to the U.K. this next summer, and I would like to tour the Motorcycle Museum. I know that it had a serious fire in recent years and has been rebuilt, along with many of the damaged bikes.
Any of our U.K. friends have info on the location and how to contact them for tours and hours of operation?

There open everyday but Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and Boxing Day. After having a quick flick through the site the only thing that isn't mentioned is the price. I remember it was not cheap, but my parents saying how worth it it was. Even more so since the fire.

Since you've mentioned it I may take a ride up next week (that's the other thing I remember it being in the middle of nowhere...though I was a kid) I'm off and at a loose end. May see what they have in the shop for my parents for Xmas!
If I do, I'll let you know what it's like.

I fully recommend a visit. My brother took me there this summer, and the collection is outstanding. If I remember correctly, every bike on display is British, apart from one ex-American police Indian, which is there because it has a Royal Enfield engine. The people who work there told us that there are still plenty of bikes being restored, and soon to be returned to the display, which almost defies belief when you see the numbers already on display. I can't imagine where they are going to find room for it all.
There are some early Triumphs from way back at the start of the 20th century, and the collection comes right up to date with the Rocket III. It also has some fine Bonnevilles, including a 1959 tangerine dream, and a TR5 ISDT trophy that shows where the new Scrambler is coming from.

Hi there.

If you're visiting UK and want to see a really good bike museum, why not visit Sammy Millers? The website address is: http://www.sammymiller.co.uk/ and, if you're interested, it's not far from the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Beaulieu has a small collection of bikes and some interesting cars such as Bluebird and a Napier Golden Arrow (I think). Both these places are in the New Forest, Hampshire, about 2 to 3 hours from Heathrow.
