When I started riding in 1960 in Colorado Springs everyone on 2 wheels waved at other 2 wheelers-didn't matter if you were on a Harley or Vespa or anything in between.
Today here in Carson City area(home of Harley-Davidson Finance & Many many Harleys) some folks wave & some don't. Sport bike riders almost never wave, occasionally a Dual sport rider will wave. GoldWing Riders do pretty good most of the time. A lot of Harley riders will do the low-down Harley wave but hey its a wave! Scooter riders almost all wave. This has been my experience whether on scooter or Bonneville. It seems to me that when cold weather hits though that the waves are more frequent cause they figure you are riding then because you like to ride like them regardless of the temp! Just musing on my part--How do You folks feel about the Wave?

I do "The Nod"

saves taking my hand off the bars.
I find it's the younger riders that don't seem to get it.
Probably all the constrained intent to get their knee down , and impress girls.

I think Harley riders wav most to me at least. And i have a feeling it's because they tend to wav mosyly to other HD riders, and when they see me coming at them i think the speedy forks look like a Harley from the front. Sportbikes almost never wav.

Nodding is more common in the U.K. than waving. One, there are so many holes in the road. Two, it's hard to wave at 90mph plus.

funny, but I was just talking to my wife about this a couple of days ago. 3 or 4 years ago probably 90 percent of the riders I would pass would wave. Now it seems like about 40 percent. Maybe bikes are getting so common people get tired of waving. I always thought it was cool though.

Central/Northern California checking in.....

We don't hafta remove our throttle hand to wave here in the states, and I find that people are pretty good 'bout waving back.

- that is to say -

I wave to pretty much anybody/everybody on a motorized two wheeler, even the biker trikers get a wave from me. I'm likely not gonna wait for the OTHER GUY to wave first. I loved having a European headlamp flasher on the Sprint, I would often flash at 'em first then wave.......

Hmm i find that most riders wave or at least give a nod, sport bikes or Harleys. If I had to generalize I would say the Harleys are least likely to wave, but they might be pissed that I passed them up and had a cup of joe and on my way home & they are still lumbering through the twisties.

From what I see, sportbike riders never wave.

Have you seen the riding position on a sport bike, they have to hold with both hands.

Here in Washington, it seems like almost everyone waves, probably 90% no matter what they are on. Once in a while some of the guys on the choppers don't wave back, but usually they do.

I think someone above had a good point, though....I think a lot of Harley guys think the Triumphs are Harleys when they approach, cause of the position and shape of them.....Its hard to tell what the other guy is on at 45 mph passing each other.

In my opinion, if your on a bike on the road you are in the club until you prove otherwise....It doesn't matter if your a RUB or a "poser", you're still out there on two wheels enjoying your machine and risking your ability to walk......stickin it to the "sheeple".
