I asked for help on this site some time ago regarding mirror vibrations and general roughness of my 05 T100 at speed. I have today improved matters quite substantially. I removed the Triumph Summer Screen. The bike is much better at speed, my vision no longer blurs(turbulence) the mirrors are clearer the bike feels altogether more lively no doubt in part due to the lovely sound of the Tor,s instead of the racket being kicked up by the screen. Son now we have the Triumph leather bags (*****) and the summer screen consigned to the back of the garage. If only I knew then what I know now.

That's something we all can say about various things. ;-)

Now, I've been trying for years to do my part on this one issue. "Don't go near those haunted windscreens," I constantly warn.

Well, not exactly. But I do often point out that, though they have their uses in weather protection, all screens for the Bonneville are inherently less aerodynamic than the bikes themselves, and by mounting to the front end rather than the chassis, they tend to impart more unwanted motion from turbulence.

I sometimes like my summer screen in winter or in wet seasons, but Bonnie much prefers to go "topless" in the summer!

Try a Parabellum Scout--you'll like it! :-D I have experienced no turbulance, no noise, and no adverse affects at any speed. I do ride with a full face helmet that is quite effective at reducing noise. I have had it up to an indicated 120 on the speedo. I am using a 16" windshield on it, and I plan to buy a 10" (they call it their racing windshield) for next summer--need more air in the heat.
Pics in my album on page 4 of P-R albums.

Do you look over the Scout fairing? Where does the wind hit your head? How far outside of the fairing are your hands. Last but not least most wind shields produce an up draft behind the shield that can cause wind to blow water into the bottom of the helmet does the Scout do this?

Thank you for your response

I use the Roadscreen from Moto Twin and find it to be just about perfect - keeps the wind off my chest but no vibrations on the bars. Also, because it has two adjustment points, it can be moved higher or lower, taller or lower depending on the riding I'm doing that day.

Also, Geoff, if you're living the the UK, you won't get punished with the forex and shipping from Moto Twin like I did.

The naked aesthetics of the bonnie are simply beautiful but I just get tired of the buffeting at speed.

I had no problems with my Summer Screen. Didn't use it around town but on longer trips it makes it much more comfortable .Naked bikes are nice but after 60 or 70 mi. at 65 mph plus it gets old.

Pete.

Think you have just about got it. I have just ridden 130 miles with the bike naked and found it to be a completely differnt machine, i.e. much better. However it is a very warm and still day. Having spoken to the guys at Moto Twin I intend to purchase one of thier screens when practicallity dictates over asthetics.

On the subject of screens, i would appreciate any comments, both for or against, the fitting of a Fly Screen onto a Speedmaster. I have used larger screens in the past on previous bikes usually without success. My main purpose for considering the Fly Screen is to prevent the constant collection of Bugs etc. that get collected on my helmet visor.

Cheers
