OK I know I should get a manual someday but there are priorities  . Is there a fuel filter on the Bonneville and if so where is it? Also is anybody using after market oil filters? If so what make and number. As long as I am on roll her , what type of oil are you using?

Thanks

I heard there was a in-line fuel filter where the fuel line goes into the carbs, and also very difficult to replace because of this location.

I'm not sure about other Bonnies, but my T100 had no fuel filter. After seeing the muck in the bottoms of my float bowls while changing jets, I decided to install one. I put in a Pingel in-line short chrome filter. It has a replaceable brass filter element and costs about $25. It fits the 5/16" fuel line. You have to take the tank off to install it, and I'd recommend putting clips on the fuel line at each connection. The only fuel filtering that comes on the bike from the manufacturer is (1) filters on the petcock up inside the tank, and (2) a small filter between the carbs. Last time I looked--no muck in the float bowls.

WS--yes, as mentioned above, there is "something" between the carbs, but its filtering ability is minimal.

As far as oil filters, bosch makes a couple that you can get at any autozone or probably most auto parts stores. If i recall they are the 3300 and 3323, one being longer than the stock filter and therefore having more filter area. But it sticks down further. I bought the shorter one. The numbers i gave may be off, but you'll have to search for "bosch" in the forums and you'll find the right numbers if these aren't correct. However, there is a reusable filter made by scott's performance that supposedly will lasts as long as the bike or longer and from the "propoganda" sounds like it filters a lot better than throw away types due to thier ability to trap smaller partices. Also supposedly allows faster better oil flow.read about it here.

Very expensive till you consider it's the last filter you'll ever need to buy for that bike. I'm considering one myself.

As for oil, i did a lot of research and found a forum that has a member who seems to be a oil guru of sorts. He's in the industry and had done a lot of testing of oils and seems to be the go to guy for the REAL info. He recommends the mobil 1 "V twin" synthetic by far. Thats what i used for my first change and after a lot of research and his advice i think i'll be using it for now on. I don't know if it's this oil or what, but as soon as i changed it the speedmaster ran exceptionaly smooth.

This is all information from my research on these subjects..........take it for what it's worth, but i did do a lot of research, not just here.
