I purchased a K&N air filter for my TT. Is it neccessary to completely remove the fuel tank to access the air box? If it needs to be removed, are these fuel connectors that much of a pain (I have the updated connectors). I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a major ordeal.

Also does anyone have any first hand experience with the K&N in a TT or Speed Four? I'm curious if the $49 was worth it.

Thanks,
Schmitty

Yes, the tank has to be removed, but it's not that much of an ordeal. Some people (myself included) have had problems with the connectors not sealing, but others haven't. If yours don't seal, my advice would be to try and do it with as little fuel in the tank as possible, take some rags and put them between the tank and frame rail on the left side to prevent paint scratching. Lift up the tank from the right side and try to rotate it onto it's side & then pull out the connectors. Also if you have some kind of container that you can place under the tank connectors in the engine compartment to catch any spills, it might be a good idea.

Hey Schmitty!
Where'd ya get the K&N from? Is it just the same flat paper filter like the stock?

And yes, I too have the new gas tank connectors and they leak 2 times out of 3 that I've removed the tank. It ain't a big deal, just sloppy.

Hey Mark,

I ordered it from my local dealer. No it isn't a paper filter like the stocker. It is oiled, pleated, cotton gauze. It's supposed to flow more air with the same or better filtration properties. It's also washable and reusable and comes with a 10 year/1 million mile  warranty. Its supposed to add power without any fuel remapping. Time will tell though.
