'01 TT600 Exhaust Questions (Need Advice)

For the time being, I want to keep my stock exhaust. The question that I have; is there a way to get a better sound out of the stock until I buy an aftermarket(i.e. Baffle Removal)? And if so what do I need to do and what will it do to preformance? I just got the bike two months ago and I love it! Thanks to all.........Have a great day!

There's really nothing you can do to the stock exhaust that wouldn't involve some major modification. The muffler has a large baffle inside and is welded shut. I have heard of members using a 5/16" or 3/8" drill bit and a long extension to drill straight through the baffle for a little less back pressure (muffler off the bike of course.) As for what this would do, I imagine if you did it enough it would free up a little breathing room for the engine which would in turn make the exhaust louder. It would also change the performance of the engine, again if there were enough holes, but to say how much or where would be anyone's guess. I have also heard of people cutting the end cap off the muffler, cutting the can down 6" or so, and welding or somehow fastening the cap back on. This would take away a good deal of back pressure but would also require some work. Other than those modifications, I can't recall hearing about any others.

I have read something like that somewhere but, they never did mention a location inside. I may try the second one you gave. Cause hey, if I screw up then the wife will have to agree for a aftermarket exhaust!

You drill straight down the muffler lengthwise. If you remove the muffler and look through the inlet you will see where you drill.

what would be the adverse affect of adding some extra holes in the exhaust like that?

I have been searching online for a good exhaust for my 200TT600. If the modding the stock exhaust works ok, I will do it also.

This will change the performance and sound, but the degree is totally dependent on how much material you take off and the ECM map. I think if you didn't go overboard you could take material off to affect the air flow but without needing to remap. So there are no real adverse effects (besides destroying a perfectly good OEM muffler.) I personally would rather find an aftermarket muffler, as you can only take away so much back-pressure with this technique and the muffler will still weigh as much as an anchor.
