grrr...just venting....

f*%$ing hell!!! my 'to do' list is mounting up!

started with a new rear tyre- when i get the wheel off that would be an ideal time to replace the rubbing strip.

of course i've had the electrical fault rear its head again- still with no joy resolving it at the dealers. now just banging my head against the wall.

in fact was billed for the investigative work. triumph won't honour a warranty if they can't see the fault. so left stuck there.

also minor things like the r/h mirror stem has rusted up bad. the rest of the bike is perfect. of course i doubt this will be covered.

and yesterday noticed the ol' favourite- clutch cable wear. mines actually shredded the sleeve on the metal retainer loop.

warranty expires tomorrow so i doubt i'll get the cable/mirror covered.

thanks for listening...just had to get a few things off my chest.

I hear ya bud...

Not with so many problems and my Chain Rubbing strip looks fine...after 8000 miles or so. I inspected it when I just removed/replaced the rear tire to have an Avon put on.

Now my dealer (STEALER is far more appropriate) took notice of my clutch cable wear and claimed to note it in the file. They get rid of the good service manager, a very enthusiastic and knowledgable guy, and all of a sudden find it odd that my bike had a file. Next thing you know for the 6000 service they claim "Triumph won't cover that until it snaps". I simply asked "well thats nice, does Triumph cover my towing bill when it snaps and I'm screwed up to 250 miles from a repair facility?" The answer was of course NO.

So I have to tell you its the service and lack of Triumph Customer Service that has sold me to replace my Speed 4 with a Japanses bike as my next machine. Now I do plan to continue owning this Speed 4 until some major problems come but I've had it with terrible pricing, terrible service, and the lack of Triumph Customer Service.

i shouldn't really complain too much- the bike has been pretty much trouble free for 14k + miles.

i think theres a poorer finish than my old t3 daytona but then many manufacturers are having to use water based paints, which don't seem to weather as well.

i have had this intermittent electrical fault- and was a little let down that even though i having been paying to take it to the dealers to keep it in warranty i seem to have been left with no where to turn.

the dealers i use have always been friendly and of a high standard, but if its true that triumph can't/won't look further into this fault under warranty (as its intermittent and not actually an obvious faulty part..) what was the point in making sure i adhered to the strict warranty guidelines!? wheres the customer satisfaction!?

i have written a letter to hinckley outlining the issues- here's their chance to redeem themselves- so we'll wait and see.

the clutch cables a pain- i thought i'd escaped that- in fact its rubbing on the retaining clip...but my warranty expires at the end of april- i really can't be bothered going all the way back to the dealers to try and get it sorted. what with petrol and time it'd be cheaper to just buy one.

the rubbing strips lasted me the 14k miles- its not totally dead but as the wheels coming off for a tyre i might as well save myself doing a job twice. hopefully they'll be the satisfaction of getting it on our way rather than the £160 'swing arm off' method i was told!!!

i guess it's a case of follow your heart. i love triumph bikes and would proudly ride a bike/wear the t-shirt promoting 'triumph' the motorcycle. its a shame triumph the company has let you down and lost future custom.

Just an FYI..

Once you get a new cable installed, get a piece of vacuum/washer tube that's about the same I.D. as the metal loop and slide it down the metal loop that holds the cable in place on top of the radiator. I've done this on mine and have eliminated wear on the second cable.

thats exactly along my line of thought!
i was going to get a length of thick rubber hose from the auto shop and sheath it. i'm not through to the cable yet- it looks like its gone through an extra sleeve on the cable so i'll use this method to get me through to another cable and then on that one.

How about some black tape? Like that fabric-feeling tape or even some electrical? I had to do this to some of the wires up front on my TT600, thanks previous owner.

i think electrical tape/ gaffer/duct tape would do for a short term sacrifical wear point, but you'd have to keep an eye on it. a good bit of rubber hose would take much longer to wear through- just make sure its thick enough but not restricting the cables movement.

i'll be looking closer at re routing the cable when i get a chance. just been rained off from replacing the rub strip.

what fun that is. still got to think of the pennies saved! (i wish i had a garage)

hahaha another satisfied Triumph customer. I buy a new bike every 4 or 5 years, I won't be buying another Triumph. I even like my bikes, but the few problems I have had with my D650 has confirmed in my mind that Triumph America doesn't give a rat's arse about models that they no longer make or the customers who own them. sod off Triumph, you've had your chance to show your true colors, and they're black. bwahahahahahahhaha

I got to say- my faith has been restored.
After writing to Triumph about my ongoing intermittant electrical 'quirk' and the fact it wasn't fixed and i still had to pay...etc etc i didn't expect much back.

However yesterday morning, 3 days after posting my letter I got a call from my dealers. Triumph customer services had been in touch. They said the wanted me to leave happy so all my money will be refunded and they'll see how they can progress with fixing the fault.

so I was pretty impressed with the speed and the sorting out.

That made me feel a bit better. trying to get the chain rub strip on in the p!ssing rain was not so much fun. will attack it again today.

good for you. Maybe there's been a shake up at Triumph customer service.....maybe it will even filter over to the USA.....maybe pigs will fly....
