02 Triumph TT600 engine rebuild

Ok so i posted a topic about getting a 02 TT600 that has a bad engine. Its got 3K miles on her but the engine was torn down and left untouched for two years and now has rust on the internals. I beleive the crank and the block are ok as well as the pistons! The head is cracked, although im hoping that its just between two valves which i can probably get welded.

My question is... where can i find rebuild parts at a fair price? Ive been search the net for days now without any luck!

Pretty much any advice on this matter would be great since ive never rebuilt this type of engine... I.E what i can keep and cant keep... things like that..

Hm, with no experience of rebuilding myself, I can only tell you what I've researched online:
New bearings - even if you might be able to make do, why not spend the extra couple of dollars
Pistons- if the bike needs to be bored at all (not sure if they do that...) you may need new pistons.
Rings- might as well swap those out too

I'm not positive, but I believe you'll need new bolts for the rods (not sure on this one, but I'm pretty sure they stretch and are meant for one time use only)

Also, I've heard the tolerances for internals on these parts is miniscule, might want to look in to that, and see if any machine shops can give you the accuracy you're looking for.

As for the head, I may have an extra head from an '01 TT600 that I won't need. Also an extra block (i bought it and it threw a rod through the side of the block, so i bought a new one thinking i would rebuild it)

After my research, I found it would be way cheaper and way easier to buy a used engine from a wrecked bike. I found an entire frame/engine/harness/ecu/etc/subframe/swingarm/rear brakes/tire for $500 locally. Pretty much an entire '04 Daytona 600 with 900 miles and no forks (no title either)

If i did the rebuild i would replace main/rod bearings, sleeves(if out of spec), rings.. BUT idono if i can salvage the rods, they are pretty rusty. The engineer for the ship i work on said to bead blast them. Rod bolts are a cheap item anyway.

Are the heads any different between years? ive read that the engine had major improvements in 2002. I would be interested in the head since mine is cracked.

idono if the daytona engine is a direct match is it?

Anyone know what a new engine goes for from the factory?

Try here. I ordered cylinder, piston kit, con. rod, head gasket and many other little bits when my TT dropped a valve. The head from e-bay.
A little cheaper than the dealer, but factory parts.

I already went through them to price everything out and its **** expensive!!

I'm going to strip the engine down when i get back from Key West and then see what i really need, im hoping to be able to save the block, sleeves, pistons and rods. I will have to get the block and head fluxed to see where the crack in the head is and also see if the block isnt cracked aswell.

So probably just pick up, rings, bearings, gasket kit and timing components. get the crank micro polished, do a vavle job if the block can be repaired and have the rods bead blasted and re-do replace the copper where the wrist pin goes through(is that possible?)

I really dont think i need new liners since the engine only has 3K on it.

Anyone know if these liners can be honed to take oversized rings?

SO...did anyone find a better price on gaskets than Bikebandit? I think I'm in need of a head gasket ('00 TT600, will confirm tomorrow). At least we had a really good ride!

Thanks,

Scott
