Advice: 2002 TT600

My buddy just got this bike given to him but it needs a motor. What is this worth buying off of him?

The engine was taken apart and set around for two years so shes rusty and not rebuildable (so ive heard). Whats a used engine go for these and is it even worth messing with? the bike is mint and it only has 3K miles..

I have seen S4 & TT engines offered for as cheap as a few hundred bucks on ebay, but remember shipping is extra. Is that worth the hassle? That is up to you.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend... If the guy gives a good deal on the bike it sounds good. 3k on a bike you say is immaculate and a new or used motor for a good price is hard to beat and it is a Triumph!

If you have a budget, the guy gives you a great deal on the bike to where you can spend the extra money on shipping for a new motor I don't see why you should pass it up, TTs are great bikes! That's why I have one!

Whats a good price on a used engine then? or a reman?

My buddy wants to sell it to be for 2grand but thats not worth it really since these bikes go for around 3-4K.

I will be doing all the work myself, no shop will be involved in the repairs. So keep that in mind.

A bike with no engine isn't worth more than $1000 in my eyes.

If he wants more tell him to put the engine in and talk about it after it is in running order.

I'm with Binary... That's what I meant about the deal, If he gave you the bike for next to nothing then you could invest the rest of your money into a motor. Get the Bike for $800-1000 then look online for a motor around $3000.

Im just going to offer him $500 bucks for the bike since he got it given to him and he doesnt want a sport bike. Then i will see what i can do with the engine internals.

Whats this i hear about a daytona engine getting installed into one of these? are they as good of an engine. I dont care about performance, i just want a long lasting engine that i can rely on that wont give me trouble.

If i do get the bike and replace the engine, what are other items i should replace as well while i have her torn down? This will be the first time working on a bike.

Update: the bike is mint, hardly even a scratch anywhere on the bike! and the reason it only has 3K on it is becuase the owner bought it in NY and drove it straight up to Maine beating on it and cracked the head!

My buddy is either going to have me buy him a different bike for $500 or just give it to me. So now i just need to find a **** engine or source out the parts to do a rebuild since it turns out that it could possibly be rebuilt
