New TT600
Hey guys, I just bought a '01 TT600 with 18k miles on it as my first bike. I paid $400 for it. Why so cheap?? Because it's got a nice sized hole in the engine block.
Anyways, I've been reading and lurking for a week or so and I figured I'd ask a question or two. I've been looking into my options basically and i figure I have two: rebuild a completely new engine, or swap in a used one from a wrecked or parted out bike. I'm decent with mechanical work, I've swapped out an auto trans for a manual before and swapped rear ends in a mustang, but never worked on bikes.
So here's my question: What blocks/motors will fit the '01 TT600 frame? I've already ordered a TT600 block/case etc with no internals for $90, but I'm starting to think that's not the cheapest/easiest solution. I've been looking around ebay and craigslist, and found an 04 Daytona 600 motor with wiring harness, tubes, airbox, ecu, etc for pretty cheap. Would this block/setup work with my bike?
I've also been looking at Triple motors, like the 955 or the 675. A little more expensive, but would these work also? Basically I just need to know what motors are interchangeable with what year bikes.
Any info or insight or writeups would be helpful. I've read the Daytona 650 motor into an d4 project already and it doesn't seem to intricate - as long as my frame has the right mounts.

Triples will not fit without serious modification. A TT600 frame is the same as an S4, so if the mounts work on an S4, they will work on a TT600 for a Daytona 600/650 swap. A 650 swap into a TT600 would make quite a sleeper bike. Nobody would expect it to be anywhere near as fast as it would be.

Well, I just finished dropping the motor out. Kinda forgot about the huge hole in the front of the block and didn't drain the oil before hand, so there's a nice big spot of oil on the garage floor now. Oh well, it's a rental
I'll post pictures soon, I'm hungry.

How do you get any work done with that big screen around? I'd be watching a ball game, beer nearby!!! Good luck with the build.

Im in the same position as you are in although i dont have a hole in the side of the block. I'm thinking about a 650 swap but since i have no knoweldge of bike mechanics I'm a little hesitant.
By the way ive done a auto to 5spd swap as well, and plan on doing a few more this summer! I hate when cars dont get imported as 5-spds...

I don't know if this is something your looking for but I can across it and he says that he will ship it. http://dallas.craigslist.org/mcy/641911051.html It is a daytona 600 motor with everything for 700 without shipping. Maybe this helps, who knows!

Thanks for all the help/info guys, I just found a complete Frame, motor, wiring harness, rear subframe, swingarm and wheel all fully assembled from a '04 Daytona 600 with 900 miles on it in miami for $500. No title, but hey, my bike's already got a title so that's okay.

Left for Miami today, three and a half hours later there's me alone trying to load an '04 D600 completely assembled except for front forks/wheel into an Acura Integra. Half an hour later, and with the a little help from a young'n, got the entire bike in the back of a two seater, all doors closed and everything =)
I got home at 7, started taking out the engine/subframe from the D600. Three hours later, engine and subframe are in the TT600. Overall not a bad swap, did it solo with just the help of a floor jack with a towel over the end of it.
Tomorrow gotta finish up the wiring, and hopefully i'll get her to fire up! I'll post some pictures later.
