I haven't started using the worn out takeoffs off the track, yet, but I know people who do. It is a very dumb thing to do, IMO. Actually, for street tires, I just ride like I normally do on the street, because I try to be as smooth as possible. Being smooth means you aren't taxing the tires too much anyway, and my street tires have some pretty big chicken strips. I like to think of them as sanity strips.

I wouldn't suggest doing that. If the tires are turning hard, "rejuvinating" with a grinder just means you will have scrubbed looking tires when you crash on their hardened, cooked non-grippy behavior. If you are talking about taking the flat spot and rounding it off after a long straight ride, then maybe, but I think a blast through some twisties is a far better way to do it.
