What the heck is this???

Looking through my shop manual for the TT600 (yeah, I have a Speed 4, but close enough), it lists the following as a maintenance item:
"Rest adaptive stepper position"

Anyone know what the heck that is?!?! I did a couple of searches and couldn't find anything. Sadly, the manual doesn't have an index. I looked in the ToC for each chapter but didn't find any mention of it. I'm not quite ready to go through the book page by page...

I assume you meant reset:

"Adaptive Stepper: Adaptive stepper is a term used to describe the algorithm used by the ECU to remember what it should do with the idle stepper motor."

I think they probably meant reset - typo in the manual! Somehow I didn't make that connection - thanks!

Anyone know if this can be done outside of a dealership (and without a tuneboy)?
