Question Need Sprocket Help

So as I am preparing my bike (Speed Four)for the track I am in the market for changing out my sprocekts. Originally I was looking for Steel sprockets only because I am only looking at doing some trackdays and some street riding so longevity was the main focus.

However I see that many of the guys in this forum have gone with Aluminum sprockets and it seems that no one stocks steel rears in my configuration (47T). I checked AFAM, JT, Sprocekt Center, Drive Systems, ESJOT, parts unlimited, and my local dealer...

Questions;
1. What can I anticipate in longevity of a aluminum sprocket assuming perfect care (adjusting, lubricating often)? I know its a hard question but will I be needing to change my sprockets after 3k, 6K, 10K, 15K miles?

2. I understand that there is a savings in unsprung mass/weight (That's what I read...) by going with a 520 conversion kit. Does this correlate to an increase in horsepower? Would I need to be Nicky Hayden or Casey Stoner or Rossi to really notice the difference from stock 525 Steel to 520 Aluminum? Other advanatages?

3. What sprocket (aluminum) manufacturer should I consider going with? I see some guys use Vortex and others use Renthal. What about AFAM and JT and other manufacturers. Is one really better and longer lasting?

FYI - I am going with a 15/47 combo with a DID X chain (525 or 520 TBD).

HELP!!!

  1. I would estimate a minimum of 10k - 15k on the street, if properly cared for.
  2. Yeah, but I don't think in the real world your gonna notice it.
  3. Mine is a Sprocket Specialist Titan Tough (15 steel front/47 rear alloy)

I've been using a company called Sprocket Specialists for my dirtbike sprockets and I have been really please with them. Their "Titan Tough" hard annodized sprockets are great for aluminum sprockets. Better than Renthal in my opinion. They can custom make a sprocket too if you can't find a Triumph sprocket in 47T.

http://www.Sprocketspecialists.com

Also, JT says that the same sprocket (45T) is cross referenced with 01-05 Suzuki GSXR600's (JT Model 1792). The 47T version is the same one used on the Suzuki V-Strom, which most bike shops will stock, since we all know most shops cater to the Japanese brands. Might even check with your local suzuki dealer.

PS. I have a steel JT 1792.45 on my S4 now with no problems. Stock was a Sunstar I believe.

As I recall, the rear sprocket is the same part as an 04 Gixxer 600. The front sprocket is the same part as a ZX6 from 98 to 02. There should be some information up in the parts swap listing. I am going from fading memory, making me a combination of unreliable and misleading. In other words, useless!

When I rode the R6, an alloy sprocket took about one season before visible wear (3000km?) I suppose Speed Four isn't as hard on the chain/sprockets, but I'd still replace them once a year. I used both JT and Renthal, and didn't see a difference in sprocket life. Didn't weigh them, but both were light.

Get 520 chain and alloy sprocket and you're looking at about 10-15% weight savings. This is all mass the engine has to rotate, so although you're not seeing a hp increase, it will have an effect (small!) on acceleration.

BTW, I'm running on 14/47 gearing on my S4, feels like a good compromise for just about every track I've been on.
