Tires on '02 TT600, Start the debate!

I am looking for a new set of tires for my '02 TT600 and want to see what everyone has to say. 100% street driving, no track days. So far from my research, I have found that my #1 choice is probably the Metzeler Sportec M1's, #2 Dunlop Qualifiers. I am looking to spend less than ~$280 shipped. What does everyone think?

for my 01 I just picked up a michelin pilot road. I havent had it mounted or installed but I paid 135 shipped. It had good reviews about people who found it had good grip and was long lasting (I just cared about grip really, but how long it lasts is a bonus) if you havent chosen a tire in about two weeks I will let you know what I think about this one.

I had very good luck with Pirelli Diablos. I would avoid Qualifiers, since they won't last as long, assuming you care. They are more street/track tires. There are Diablo Stradas now. I have never tried them, so I don't know what they are like, but I am sure they would be fine on the street and last well. Pilot Roads would be good. Pilot Powers are a good street sport tire, although they do cook if you use them on the track and heat cycle them too much. But that's not your issue. I don't know much about Metzlers. For what its worth, I am using Bridgestones on my race bike, but won't use them on the street.

chrisjames, i probably will wait until i can do some more research - so let me know!

will, thank you, i am looking at the pirelli diablos now too. the qualifiers downfall is mileage, i read that in 1 review. that is important to me. i will dock them down on my list.

Just to follow up on mileage and Diablos, I got 14K miles and 3 trackdays out of a set of Diablos on my 2001 TT600. The mileage was most likely due to a number of factors you may or may not have in your favor- 1. They were probably case hardened to rocks by the trackdays and would never wear or grip again. 2. I ride in a lot of rain and during cold weather. Heat and friction wear out tires. Rain and cold weather keep them cool, reducing wear. 3. I ride in Seattle in traffic. Traffic keeps speeds down, and therefore heat. Seattle streets are generally worn concrete- not abrasive. They are slippery, but the worn surface doesn't chew tires, either.

I changed the set I am talking about more due to age and heat cycling than tread wear. They probably had another 3 to 5K miles left in them before the bars got flush with the rest of the tread. I just figured 14K was plenty and I had pushed my luck enough. And, it was track season again and I wanted fresh buns anyway.

+1 for the Stradas. I used them and will go back once the M1 are done on my bike. I like the M1 but for the street the Stradas were great. They warmed up great, and handling everything I threw their way including riding in a down pour for roughly 6 hours.

I'll be throwing the Avon Storm ST's on the Speed 4 here shortly. No great curved roads here, so often times I find a more straight path is all I have. I chose these because of their reviews and price was real good. Not to mention its built for the touring/sport side of things, which is how I'd classify my riding so far.
