50,000.... and still kickin'

Here's my response to the engine life expectancy thread.....

We had a little speed bump with a fried stator & regulator, so she hung on 49,821 for a while, but got to the big 5-0 on the way home from work Friday!

Good to hear as I want my Speed Four to last forever. Any secrets to its longevity?

Other than regular service and frequent chain lubrication, not really. That's about the only pampering it's gotten with most of it's time spent commuting year round on our awful highways around here through rain, cold & the occasional snow flurries. Oh, I guess in the spring I spend some time crawling around with some corrosion remover getting the salt off the pipes and other exposed metal.

My TT600 lasted 45K miles with a fuel cutoff raised 1500 rpm higher than stock and a lot of other fuel injection experiments. Not to mention several random trips to the pavement. 100K miles is something I fully expect to see regularly from Triumph 600s and the Daytona 650. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find one with 200K miles on it in a decade or so, as long as it had decent routine maintenance and wasn't flogged on the track.

And a few hundred dollars spent on "minor" repairs...
