Its normal for these bikes to run up to 220F+ sittingin traffic. The fan doesn't come on till 223F. Depending on the air temperture outside mine will run anywhere from 175F (15F outside) to around 215F Cruising (100F+ outside)

Question

oh wow i wonder whats wrong with my bike. its been running hot. its about 60F out and i was at 235 to 245. is that bad? is there a type of coolant that bikes need, or can i just use regular coolant for a car?

Is your fan coming on? ..check it

Replaced thermostat? ..do it

I believe my bike has regular green coolant in it.

You could flush and fill with "Engine Ice" but Im not sure changing your coolant is the answer and the effectivness would most likely be nill. Putting a band-aid on the root problem is never a good answer. The bike should run at normal temps with standard coolant. The highest temp I have seen on mine is 238F. And that was sitting in traffic for 1/2 a hour and 105F outside.

It may be OK - the temp sensor may just be shorting a little (water can accumulate there, especially if you pressure wash). To check, you'd need to remove the left (as you sit on the bike) fairing. It's easy enough to find - a t the end of a load of wires with a push-release clip. Simply unclip the clip and look for water. If found, soak up, squirt with WD40 et voila. An easy and free fix, if it's the problem. Of course if it isn't the problem, it's time wasted, but worth a look?

Other cheap DIY fixes would be to check for air-locks in the radiator (not sure how to do that - someone will know!), obviously check coolant level and also check oil level. If either is low, the engine may run hotter than normal.

If it's really heating up badly, there are a few things to check. First, too little oil or too much oil are no good. Second, check the radiator's coolant level. If there's very little in there, then there's a problem. Also, check to make sure the coolant is bled. The air pockets can cause some heat buildup. The sensor can also be the problem. It'll be a little black box thing with the clip as someone else mentioned.

mine runs at 190 on the highway but quickly gets up to 220 in traffic but its never seen 245. I would make sure the fans are coming on, if it has coolant it would have to be the stat or water pump. Get it fixed before it hurts the engine.
