On june 11th I wrecked my tt, now want to make it a streetfighter

Well as the title states I had a nasty spill on june 11th. My bike will be rideable with some parts, suchs as a left rearset, clutch lever, the stator cover, and a seat and some body work. I bought a new bike the day I got out of the hospital which is a 07 gsxr 1000. I am new to this streetfighter setup, and want to know do any of you guys do it? I know it would basically be like a speed four right? I am just unsure where to get the smaller fairing and the headlights and such that you need to get to make a bike like that. So if you know any info that could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

well i think you can get the brackets, lights etc necessary from the speed four and bolt it right up. Id get the belly pan for underneath too.

I believe that you can get the headlight/speedo cowl assembly from Bikebandit.com. I've gotten parts for the assembly from them. Just a warning: these parts are a bit pricey. You could probably still get a new belly pan and radiator cowl set from Triumph or ask around this forum for used pars. Maybe someone wants to sell the ones off of their bike. I've seen speed 4 parts occasionally on ebay, but they're pretty rare.

Flyscreen from the 955 trip fits.
Coolant reservoir in the Speed Four is under the seat
Rad for the Speed 4 differs slightly in that the coolant reservoir connection is at the back of the rad instead of the front.
Also the indicators attach to the rad by means of a bracket.
I suspect the biggest prob will be getting the lamp units and I don't know whether the 955 trip lamps will fit (I doubt it as no-ones ever posted a message to say they've tried it).
On earlier TT600 the alternator/generator was less powerful that the Speed Four item but this probably wouldn't be a problem if you didn't run it with the both headlamps lit.

Basically, technically it's not that hard to convert but it the bits might cost a bit.

The conversion is doable, but it will take some scrounging and fabrication. When I converted my TT600 into a dragbike Speed Four I found these things out:

*You need a S4 radiator overflow tank. The radiator hookup being backwards isn’t an issue; just loop the tubing around.

*You need S4 intake snorkels and inner air-ram tubes. You'll have to drill new holes in the TT600 chassis to make these work.

*You need S4 headlights. Here's the deal on the headlights: 02-05 Speed Triple headlight assemblies (including buckets, lenses, center pivot, mounting bracket, etc.) are the same as the S4. The difference in part numbers is with the wire harness and there are two spacers for the sides of the bracket you need. The bracket is too wide for the S4/TT600 chassis, so Triumph used one spacer on each side. You could fab your own or get the factory ones. As far as the wire harness goes, I assume it is a difference in connectors on the chassis side, but you could cut any harness and use generic connectors. Also, the TT600 wire harness has one plug for the headlight, so you'd have to do some rewiring to get two plugs out of it without frying the single wire.

*You need to fabricate mounts for new front turn signals, as stated above, the S4 signals mount to the radiator. You could J.B. weld brackets onto the radiator sides, as I've J.B. welded a broken top radiator mounting bracket with success. You could also figure out another place to mount brackets.

*The TT600 wire loom is much longer in the front than the S4, as it is hidden by the fairings. It takes some routing and looping to get things to tuck up under the gas tank and to allow room for the steering stops to freely contact the chassis without wire interference.

*For mirrors, you'll need to get the clutch and brake perch end clamps that have the threaded boss for mirrors. These can come off pretty much any handlebar-mounted-mirror Triumph. These parts are affordable new, and there are always guys on here who want the smooth TT600 clamps because they have converted to bar-end mirrors. Bar-ends are another option, but that depends on taste. If you go with the handlebar mounted mirrors, you will, obviously, need mirrors too.

*Another issue is the exhaust header. The TT600's were roughly welded and don't have a polished finish, because they are covered by the fairings. It would be a little ugly to run the TT600's without cleaning it up.

All the parts discussed above can be found either in the classifieds of TRat, on ebay, or from Triumph. They will probably take a while to get all of them used, but if you buy the larger pieces (headlights/bracket, rad overflow tank, etc.) new from Triumph or BikeB.com you will end up spending a lot of money. But as people have said, the parts go quickly in the used market, so you'd be wise to stay on top of the listings. The conversion can be done to look good, but it isn't a matter of simply bolting things on; you will need to do a little work to get things right.
