problems with neutral

i have a 2000 tt600, and every once in a while i just can't get it in neutral. and other times as i'm changing from first to second it stops at neutral. are my gears in need for a swap, or is my clutch slipping. and when it gets stuck on neutral and i change it to second gear it makes a horrible sound, as if i didn't even use my clutch. i allow the idle to drop to 1000, and it still crashes hard. any insight is always greatly appreciated.
thanks,
mike

The TT's/S4's arguably don't have the smoothest 1-2 shift, but it may work better with a slight preload (pressure) of the shift lever with your foot before you roll-off the throttle, pull the clutch, & make the move.

Questions:
  1. How many miles on the bike?
  2. How many miles since the last oil change?
  3. What is the engagement point of your clutch lever (how far do you have to pull back the clutch lever before the clutch is fully disengaged?
  4. Has this situation worsened over time?

beware of this neutral issue! I had the same issue once or twice and then one day from a stop light something poped in my transmission and wouldn't come out of neutral at all. Took it in to the shop and it turns out an alignment pin had snapped. I was stupid and took it to a non triumph certified dealer and the old man did something wrong when putting my bike together and now it runs on three cylinders. Still not working right! NEUTRAL RUINED MY SUMMER FUN
