I think i am just trying to convince myself its OK to sell my Buell X1. The S4 beats it hands down for reliability, performance, and maintenance costs.
But still its just sitting in my garage looking so rejected?
Somebody write something that makes me feel better about selling it, why I bet they are not even made in America all that much anyway.

Harley-Davidson (which owns Buell) used to sell the American-made HeatTroller, a thermostat controller for heated clothing. Someone at H-D decided it was costing too much money to buy the American product, so they stole the design and now have a flawed copy of it manufactured in China. The designer of the HeatTroller gets nothing but threatening letters from H-D's lawyers. See http://www.warmnsafe.com/ and click the "Company History" link if you think I'm making this up.

If it's okay for H-D to buy inferior products from China, I figure it has to be okay for you to buy superior products from England.

I was fortunate not to have to make that decision. I kept my Buell Cyclone when I bought a Speed 4 this summer. The little Triumph is a blast! The Buell has been sitting a lot since the Speed 4 moved in to the garage.
If I had to make a choice, I would sell the Buell and keep the Triumph. The tube-frame Buells just aren't there in terms of performance and reliability. For now, I'm still keeping my Cyclone. It is a fun ride, kind of a vintage feel to it. And having fun is what it's all about.

Funny how Buell versus Speed Four is a sensible choice, probably could stick a Ducati Monster in there too!

:???: I went through the same Buell/Speed4 thing last year. I had really liked the M2 :-D in 2001 (apart from the rubbery gearchange ) but couldn't afford one new then.

When I decided to buy a better bike there was an X1 for sale locally, 800 miles £4500. I was very tempted... but a long test ride on the S4 sent me in that direction instead!

I think it was the right decision for me for last year, but I still respect the brawny version of fun that Eric Buell found in the Harley engine the man is a genius

If Harley Davidson would allow Erik Buell to do his thing with motors like he does everything else, Buells would be very interesting. As it is, they are the world's fastest tractors. S4 vs. Buell is hardly a fair fight!

I have rode many miles on my buddies buell and enjoyed the bike a lot. It still didnt fell very sporty to me..... not compared to the s4. Although they are both fun bikes. I chose to get an s4 because it was a modern day cafe racer, which is my preference...... just my 2 cents....

You can check out the www.sacborg.com website forums. It is a Buell dedicated site -- there is some bashing going on, but it's always fun there and not always negative. Watch out for the Political and religious talk, but you'll be warned by them before you even click! Don't forget www.badweatherbikers.com as well, they are a Buell tech site that doesn't stray far from the tech side of things -- mostly due to a hard-lining SysOp there, but that's his prerogative, right?

It's a great place to hang out. :-D
