Speed 4 as a Track bike? Riding position vs TT600/Daytona?

Hey folks. Right now I have an '01 Speed Triple and I'm thinking about getting into racing pretty seriously but just for fun. If I did so, my plan would be to sell my S3 and get a bike that is a little less powerful, lighter, and less expensive. I'm really looking into the Speed 4, and TT600. I kind of wanted to get something with a fairing and an aggressive riding position. Looks like S4's and TT600's can be had at some good deals and there's a really good deal in my area on a S4. How is an S4 on the track? Unbearable without a fairing? Is the riding position the same as the TT600? If I were to get either a TT600 or a S4, are there any upgrades that are strongly recommended to make either bike much better on the track? Any other comments on using these bikes on the track is welcomed, thanks.

The riding position is the same between the S4 and TT. For track use, a TT is the best bet - I've never been on a track but those who do track days seem to strongly prefer a faired bike.

Depends on the track and speeds.

Road America was great with fairings, Blackhawk Farms was fine either way.

Thumbs up

Darn, if I still lived in Milwaukee I could sell you my TT

I was living in Pewaukee and had 3 in the garage at one point, watch out for the acorns when you run Blackhawk!

Aclud, you shouldn't have moved!

Not having a fairing was one of the main things I was worried about. I'm kind of used to not having a fairing since I'm riding the Speed Triple but I figured the wind resistance would be crazy at racing speeds, especially on the main straight at Road America. I can see how it wouldn't matter too much at Black Hawk.

Still is a tough decision of what route I'd go... S4 vs TT

If you aren't planning on racing, what does it matter? There were a few guys on bikes without fairings at RA. Just tuck as low as you can.

As for the acorns at blackhawk... last time I was there it was a turtle on the frontstretch and a deer out of turn 5.

I know someone who ran a triple at Blackhawk then bought a TT, he said the worst part about the triple was the bar position...

I've done track days on my Speed Four and it easily holds it's own with the faired bikes.
As the TT600 has different cams it produces more power at the top end at the expense of some mid range. Considering your ragging the t1ts off the bike on the track I guess the same rider would circulate a tiny bit quicker on a TT.

Personally I'd go for the one you prefer the look of
