i think the noticeable differences will be the powerband like someone mentioned, and isnt the TT's suspension a bit different?

How much difference do fairings really make? I thought it was more of a looks thing, or atleast they didnt make a performance difference until very high speeds (like 150 mph). It seems a lot of people track SV's and they dont typically have fairings.

Fairings are also expensive and easily damaged. They get in the way when working on the bike.

I rode a TT600 on the track for about four years. It is an outstanding track bike. If you are just doing trackdays and it doesn't matter if you have the lowest laptimes and highest power, then it is about perfect. They handle well, have enough power but not enough torque to get you into excessive trouble if you are ham fisted, and the brakes are good enough as long as you keep after the pads and keep them bled. They are reasonably adjustable, and the only major weakness I can think of is the vulnerable stator cover. If you crash, the stator cover will likely break or grind through, and there are very few aftermarket armor sources. I haven't seen a carbon cover for them for a number of years. For what its worth, I had a great time on my TT600 going roasting around people I had no business keeping up with, since its handling was so confidence inspiring.

I had a great time at the track this past week on my S4. It was my 1st time but it's sure not to be my last.

I'd agree that a faring is unnecessary at a track day I don't even have the pixie hat on mine and I was fine tucked in showing 120. I did have to get creative with where I put my numbers though. It's worth something on the top end or at the drag strip but that's not the point at a track day.

Damage control might be an issue but a spare cover and sliders will keep you going and you don't have to worry about so much paint and plastic.

The handling and suspension were great, I now have loads more confidence in what my bike can do having spent the time at the track, but those will be the same on an S4 or a TT.

I'd say don't go spoiling your self with wind protection and stand out from the crowd... I mean.. "go your own way."

I have a Speed 4 that I use almost exclusively for track days (B group). It's a fantastic track bike and you don't have to worry about replacing all the expensive plastic if something goes wrong. Either bike is fine for 99% of riders, but don't shy away from the S4 just because it doesn't have a fairing.

Without a fairing you feel you're going faster, that's a plus, isn't it

As I said in the other thread, the biggest complaint I have are the clip ons. Get them lower and at a wider angle, and you got yourself a kickass bike for trackday fun.
