So it runs... what's that? It's a piston. Doesn't that go in the engine? Oh shoot...
As Jeff requested, I've some exciting news : The beast lives again! I received the engine on Monday, and finally had the chance to work on it this afternoon. It was essentially a long block, so the throttle body, fuel rail, starter, etc, had to be swapped over. A major pain was the fact that all the electrical connectors were soaked with oil, so that took some time cleaning all the stuff up. I also did away with all the CA emissions systems. I got the engine bolted up and the throttle and clutch cables all adjusted. After a quick run over to the parts house for a filter and oil, I was ready to fire it.
I received the Tuneboy Key for the ECU earlier this week, and I got the bike hooked up to TuneEdit. Turns out it had the 10090 tune loaded, which I think is the 02 TT600 map. I went ahead and loaded the 10091 which is for aftermarket exhaust. After 'borrowing' the full fuel tank off the satin black TT600, I was ready to roll.
It took a good while for the fuel system to prime, so there was some major cranking. But she sprang to life without giving much fuss. Everything ran great with no sensor errors or interesting noises which would cause me to leap at the kill switch in a desperate attempt to salvage the engine! The mill won't grab the low R's very well, which I'm sure is due to the muffler. Tomorrow I'm going to play around with the muffler discs to find the sweet spot. I also want to take the bike for a spin to make sure the tranny works well. I located a local supplier of methanol, so the next step is to go get 5 gallons of that and start adjusting the fuel mapping.
This past week I've been going over to the body shop in the morning. I have all of the bodywork buffed, and polished. It really looks like clean glass--a little too clean for a drag bike, in my opinion. So race day is looming ever closer! I'll snap some pictures tomorrow.

It's been a while since my last post, but I have done much to the bike. All the bodywork is on it, the front is strapped, and all that is left are a few minor adjustments. I still need to cut the undertail off at the back. I tunned the muffler and the engine really comes alive now. I took the bike for an 'I really hope the fuzz isn't near by' run through the neighborhood, and everything works very well.
I ended up doing a charging system modification that I did on my Speedtona (thanks to a post over in the Daytona forum). I soldered a 12 gauge red wire through the 2 output wires of the regulator (connecting the two), through an in-line fuse, and directly to the positive battery terminal. I then soldered a 12 gauge black wire to the output ground of the regulator and ran it to the negative battery terminal. The difference is amazing. Before the mod, the system was charging at 14.5V at idle (190*F), and once the throttle was opened it dropped to 14.2V. After the mod, it charges at 14.87V at idle (190*F) and drops to 14.7V when the throttle is opened. Now the charging system is working properly.
I am going to run the radiator fan wires through a kill-switch which will be located up near the bars. I will then edit the fan on/off temps using Tuneboy so that the fan comes on very early (around 130*F). I'm doing this so that the kill-switch will control the fan; so when I pull up to the line to race I can kill the fan to make sure I don't have a loose variable of the fan kicking on during the run.
Because I have been caught up doing other things, I only have three more races before the season is over, so I won't be converting to methanol this year; I'll take care of that during the winter.
I met two guys on a local motorcycle forum who frequently drag race full on drag bikes at Sears Point. I have been given invaluable riding advice from them, and they are going to meet me at the track on October 31 for my first race to help with suspension tuning and for general support. I'm really looking forward to racing the bike.

It looks outstanding! I might have to rethink the paint for my track plastic.
