Unfortunately, I didn't do the conversion. The previous owners (only two) did. I was even thinking of switching back to a 525 since it's so hard to find steel 520 sprockets. At least for me, I might be slightly retarded. However i've found a lot of 520 conversion kits, but that's again only supplies you with Alloy sprockets.

I hear you BBD, grave shift is great for riding. I get off in the morning at 7am also, when it's nice and crisp out and all the traffic is going the opposite direction. Working 4x10s is great too since I get three days to ride (when my bike is up, that is). And most of the motogurus here at work have at least one day off with me, so we're planning some 500+ mile trips. A couple of us are going to try and ride up to Canada and back in two days. Should be a great trip from Portland, OR.

Anyways, sorry i'm no help with the conversion question. Do you think switching back to a 525 is a bad idea? As far as i've been informed the only reason to convert to a 520 is weight saving. Is that correct?

I totally hear you on the durability thing, but I think the lack of availability of steel sprockets is because they're just isn't a need for them. I've never heard of anyone have a rear sprocket wear out before a chain, so I'd go stick with aluminum for the rear sprocket for availability reasons... If you want extra life get a hard ano sprocket.

You're right, less weight in the drivetrain is the motivating factor. Also, a modern 525 chain is ridiculous overkill for a 600cc bike. The tensile strength on modern chains is very, very high, and even literbikes can run 520 chains these days, so there's no reason not to go 520.

BBD - my front sprocket went on with no problems. Or there are problems, and I haven't noticed them!

And you 4X10 bastidges are very lucky. My work week usually looks more like 5X10 with a few hours on a weekend thrown in for good measure! I haven't spent nearly enough quality time with my bike this year .

Ouch man, thats alotta no riding time. ive been working 4x12 days, or nights i should say rather. but i pick up extra shifts when people get sick or wanna trade shifts, so it can be a 60 hour work week really quick, but what can i say? we all know where the money is going anyways... this bike is worst than a drug addiction, at least theres a rehab for heroin

Once you get trackdays in the mix, you really have a money drain!

Well guys, i'm all back up and running! My sprocket came in at 1 am (boo waking me up 3 hours early, yay sprocket!) so of course I had to finish off my repair job immediately. So, all fixed up, ajusted and an hour later, i'm on the road. Had to put on the side fairing and some other small parts. The new sprocket fixed the power surge issue I was having with my throttle. What a shock, eh? She runs great, although I'm getting a little afterfire, so i'm going to tear into the exhaust after work and see if I need to get a new donut or what. Just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me out! I'll post some pics once my girl comes over with her camera and data load cable. My lil'bro 'borrowed' mine. Haha. Thanks again all!
