Smile Engine cutting out when warm

Hi all,

I picked up my 2000 TT last week, it seems to run fine - a bit hestitant at low revs as I picked up it would be. However on a few occasions now it has stalled on me, usually when warm and after I pull away from a standing start (eg junction). It starts back up fine. Anyone had similar problems? and what was the solution. It has been regularly serviced.

Not sure if related but it also 'pops' on the overrun quite often and even produced a big missfire that cut the engine out the other day - but again started back fine?

Any advise greatfully received

Dave

Sounds like you are running too lean to me. You could have some other problems, but start with throttle body synch and getting the CO set. My experience has been that the low end glitches virtually disappear when the bike is tuned up well, even if it is a 2000 model.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

Thanks for the info....out of interest can adjustments to CO etc be made by any compentant mechanic/garage, or does it need to be a triumph dealer?

Thanks

what octane do you run through it. I have to run 93 threw my 2000 tt or it dies. mine is real picky with fuel if i run anything other than shell gas it dies as well. it could be running lean. A power commander did wonders for my tt as well. you might want to look into getting one.

Octane shouldn't matter. I don't know whether anybody besides a Triumph dealer can work on your bike. I know you can do it yourself with no problems using TuneBoy, but not everyone has a cable and unlock code.

Yep you're looking at a dealership to change the values. They can charge anything from nothing to $100 for it - it won't take them more than a few minutes but it needs to be hooked up to the computer.

The alternative is to buy a Tuneboy - it lets you access your ECU directly, setting up custom maps and changing just about anything you want. They cost ~$350USD for a cable to hook up your bike to a computer and an unlock code for your bike. They're pretty awesome from what I've read. The major downside I see is that if you get a different bike you need to buy a new unlock code, so there's no way to recoup the investment...

Sure there is. Tune your bike once and TuneBoy is paid for.

Thanks for all the help guys, your all very helpful! As an update I took the bike out for a decent run today in the sun, the fan kicked in a few times and the bike still ran fine. So hopefully it might be as one mechanic told me, that it just needed to be run regularly, as it hadnt been used often before I got it.

Cheers
