Taking both wheels off at the same time..

Ok heres my dilema and im sure you guys have the answer. I have to have both rims straightened on saturday morning. My friend let me borrow his rear tire stand. So right now my TT600 is sitting with no rear tire, rear swingarm is on the paddock stand. I took the fairings off hoping I could find a safe place to jack up the front to take the front tire off... I dont see any place that looks safe enough with a strong enough pivot point. I dont have any over head beams or an engine hoist to hang the bike from.. anyone have a resoultion?

if you have access to something sturdy up top, use a ratchet strap through the top of the triples to lift the front end up.

or jack stands rigged up. i've done it that way before, you just have to work with it.

ceiling is drywalled and no room to fit a stand in its not a great setup obviously lol. I have two saw horses but i dont know how much weight they will hold. i have two jackstands that i cut some carpet to put on top of to minimize damage but they seem to be at an odd angle to the forks.

buy a front tire stand??? since there are no fairings on the bike you could try using a 2 x 4 or 4 x 4 under the front of the frame below the triple trees (you would have to remove the horn) same place where a front tire stand would life the bike... and use the 4 x 4 and the 2 horses... you would have to trust that the horses could hold about 300 lbs... or build a 2 x 4/4 x 4 box frame and use some strapping under the triple trees...

my buddy built a triangle stand and used ratchet straps through the triple tree


but yeah to use the front tire stand you have to remove the horn .. 1 bolt and 2 wires if i remember right.

I had both wheels off last week on my wife's TT600. I used the rear swing arm stand, & up front, placed two jack-stands (cheap, triangle looking ones from Wal Mart). One under each fork. It sat there for a week no problem.

Thats what im more than likely going to do as I have them already next to the forks. I was just worried about damaging the forks i guess.had also considered putting a steel rod through the forks to rest that on the jack stands but that might be too difficult to manage. What tool did you use to take the axle out? I see the two hex bolts in the front once that comes off is it easy to unscrew or pull out hte axle bolt? In the stock tool kit there is a hollow aluminum piece that fits in there but doesnt seem like it would withstand much tourqe..

its simple to remove... just loosen those two bolts and then remove the axle. I dont have a TT tool kit so I cant help you there but be carefull with the speedo when you remove and reinstall they tend to break easily

hmm i dont have a manual lol im guessing thats what that cable is going to the axle piece. Thank you for the heads up on that. I am hopefully putting htings back together on saturday night so i only have to remember how things looked for 2 days.


As an aside:
I need to change the rear pivot point i have the read stand all the way back. i wanted to see how heavy the bike really was so i put my arm through the front rim and grabbed my wrist and lifted the bike up a foot or so.. its definitely heavy and it definitely hurt lol

Thanks guys im going to end up going with the jack stands covered in a carpet strip to minimize damage.
