new gas cap?

hey guys, still having trouble starting my 2000 tt. checked all hoses for kinkes or damage, none found? i pop the gas cap and it fires up, then runs normal. someone told me that i need a new gas cap but not sure. any suggestions, i just dont want to order a new cap with a new key for it and not be the problem. i have seen other people on here talk about how they have to pop there gas cap to start up but no solution to the problem.

thanks for the help and time,

bob

I had the same issue on both the 2001 and 2000 that I owned. It is a mystery to me why it happens, but it was easy enough to open and shut the gas cap before starting the bike from cold.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

thanks will for the reply but it just wont start right away, i have to let it turn over a couple of times then pop it then it will fire. was yours a tough bike to dial in, meaning with mapping. i have a k&n, and dnd exhaust and a power commander and i cant dial it in perfect. low rpm its rough and when i roll on it it sounds like it takes to much air(dont know if i should have left the stock air filter in). thank u

Just a stray thought...but is the fuel pump about to die? I had mine out last summer and sent it off to Freedom Cycles in Reno, NV for service. It didn't act up before nor has it since. Like I said, just a stray thought...
